PACKAGED ITINERARY

Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time to relax before dinner. Day 2 Day in Resort Driver’s Day Off We spend our first day at our chosen hotel, relaxing in our resort and exploring our home for the next week. We could relax at our wonderful hotel or perhaps sun ourselves on the lovely golden beaches nearby. Day 3 Bilbao This morning, we travel east for a half day guided tour of the vibrant and cultural city of Bilbao. Tucked into a landscape of rolling hills and close to a beautiful sandy coastline, Bilbao is famous for the iconic Guggenheim Museum with its modern architecture rivalling the art featured within. A complete contrast is the city’s historic quarter, a maze of pretty streets and ornate buildings and at its centre, the imposing Santiago Cathedral, Bilbao’s oldest building. After soaking up this beautiful city, find one of the atmospheric bars and enjoy a beer and some delicious basque-style tapas. Day 4 Picos de Europa National Park & Fuente Dé Cable Car Today we make our way through the Spanish countryside to the Picos de Europa National Park’s Sotama Visitor Centre, close to the village of Potes. We spend some time here before travelling on to Fuente Dé, where we have free time to enjoy lunch before travelling on the Fuenta Dé cable car up the sheer mountain slope. We enjoy spectacular views from the top, at a height of 1,800m! Day 5 Santander Today we travel to the engaging capital city of Cantabria, for a half-day guided tour of Santander . Full of fine beaches, shops, cafés and some intriguing cultural attractions, there is plenty to take in here. The Palacio de la Magdalena, once the royal summer residence, lies at the mouth of the Bay of Santander on the rocky La Magdalena Peninsula, whilst the city centre is home to Santander Cathedral, with its octagonal cupola and Gothic cloister. In the afternoon we can enjoy shopping or exploring and strolling along the nearby Paseo de Pereda promenade, which runs along one side of the Jardines de Pereda gardens. Day 6 Santoña and Laredo This morning, we make the short journey to the fishing town of Santoña, the main canning port in Cantabria and famed for its anchovies in oil. The town holds a large outdoor market every Saturday, so while there we can mingle with the locals. Afterwards, we head south to spend the afternoon at leisure in one of Cantabria’s most popular tourist towns of Laredo, with one of the longest and most beautiful beaches in the region. Day 7 Day in Resort Driver’s Day Off We spend our last day in Cantabria relaxing at our hotel, catching some last rays of sun on the beach, or buying souvenirs in the nearby town.
