THE UNITY OF THE WORD OF GOD (continued)

as any scientific text. Have you ever thought what would have happened if this had been penned to accommo date the best theories of the day? It could certainly not have been trust worthy for this present hour. Dr. Henry Morris, who is an engineer and a scientist, flatly proclaims that the Bible is a textbook of science. He’s not saying that the Bible is or ganized in the manner of the modern scientific handbook, or that it gives detailed technical descriptions and mathematical formulae. He is reit erating that wherever the Bible touches on a subject, capable of ex perimental verification, it has never proven to be false. Job discovered that it's not God, nor His Word, that are on trial, but rather man as he stands in the pres ence of the Lord. Man’s limits of human knowledge are shown in Job 38:1-3. In chapter 40, verses 1-5, we find God Himself describing the lim its of human knowledge. Job had sought to confront God to receive vindication from Him. He had been asking some very difficult questions such as the meaning of human suf fering. We’re still asking that today. But God’s questions turned out to be even more ponderous. He begins by asking Job what he knew about creation. Study Job 38:4-15 for en lightenment in this area. Dr. W. F. Albright calls the Genesis account unique in ancient literature. It un doubtedly reflects an advanced mono theistic point of view which is so rational that modem science cannot improve upon it. In fact, modern scientific studies have such a dis concerting tendency to be short-lived that they may be seriously doubted. The Holy Spirit uses non-technical language. The Bible was written for men of all ages. It is simple enough for the most unlearned, and profound enough for the deepest student. The most learned man cannot catch the Holy Spirit in error. Notice God’s question s: “Hast

by Dr. Lloyd T. Anderson, Biola Hour Teacher, and pastor of Bethany Baptist Church, West Covina, Calif. P art E leven T here is more than ample proof, externally and internally, that the Word of God is inerrantly inspired by the Holy Spirit. There is no other Book in the world like the Bible. The Scriptures cannot be broken. It is unified in its structure, author ship, and subject matter. It must be accepted in its entirety. One must choose whether to give more credence to scriptural declarations or to those of unbelieving scientists. There are some unthinking, unconcerned people who will say, “I can't believe the Bible; it’s full of errors.” The chal lenge to the scientific accuracy of the Bible has been frequently chal lenged. But no Christian need to re treat from the fight. They needn’t use the simple reason that the Word of God is not a textbook of science, but rather of religion. It’s true that Scripture primarily seeks to acquaint us with God the creator. The fact of the matter is that wherever the Bible speaks on the subject of science it’s always accurate and We need to con sider these evidences for biblical in spiration. Wherever it approaches subjects of geography, history, ar chaeology or anything in the realm of science at all, it is always abso lutely true. First of all, consider man’s stand ing in the presence of God. Read the 38th chapter of Job for an interest ing explanation of this. Written cen turies ago, it is as up-to-date today 26
