NEW 7 BREW DRIVE-THRU COFFEE SHOP COMING TO MOODY THIS SPRING Something’s brewing on Highway 280… a new 7 Brew Drive-Thru Coffee! It will be opening in March or April of this year in Moody at 7015 Meadowlark Drive. It’s being built right behind the new Raising Cane’s, making it the fifth 7 Brew in Shelby County. This popular chain began in 2017 in Rogers, Arkansas and has quickly spread out throughout the country. They offer many different custom-hand crafted drinks—coffee, of course, but also premium energy drinks, sparkling water-infused drinks, smoothies, shakes, and more. To check out their menu, visit 7brew.com.

PROTECTING KIDS ONLINE: WHAT PARENTS CAN LEARN FROM AUSTRALIA’S SOCIAL MEDIA BAN Australia recently instituted the world’s first teen social media ban, called the Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Bill. The act of legislation prohibits children under age 16 from accessing popular platforms like TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, X, Snapchat, and more. The hope is to prevent children from the damage social media can cause to their mental health by deactivating their accounts and threatening to fine social media companies up to $50 million if they do not stop under-16s from having accounts. According to their government, 86 percent of Australians aged 8 to 15 used social media prior to the ban. “It is one of the biggest social and cultural changes that our nation has faced,” shares Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The world is now watching to see if the law is effective. This drastic action should be a wake-up call to parents around the globe that technology is very powerful and it is important to protect your kids and what they can do online. reuters.com

IS THIS THE BEGINNING OF BROOKWOOD VILLAGE’S COMEBACK? If you’ve ever driven on Shakes Creek Parkway, you’ve likely gazed at the old abandoned Brookwood Village and thought to yourself, “Man, I wish they would do something with that shopping mall!”Well, good news! There have been rumblings for months, but Homewood City’s Council has officially approved a rezoning for two lots, allowing for a 30,000 square-foot medical and office space with parking for Andrews Sports Medicine, an orthopedic clinic. Andrews Sports Medicine will move into the old Belk location, with a 20-year lease. This development is hopefully the beginning of the revitalization of Brookwood Village, sparking new businesses in the months to come. cityofhomewood.com
