JUNE 2023

MINDFULNESS IS THE KEY TO HEALTHY SCROLLING

LEVERAGE SOCIAL MEDIA TO YOUR BENEFIT

Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Reddit, and YouTube: These platforms inspire us, motivate us, provide a space to embrace our creativity, and help us to keep in touch with others. However, just as quickly as social media builds us up, it can tear us down. On June 21,

we celebrate National Selfie Day, and June 30 is World Social Media Day, dedicated to embracing the positive things in today’s social media platforms. In our home, Nicole and I are firm believers that you tend to become like the people with whom you surround yourself. We often adopt the same habits and behaviors of our spouses and friends, and the interests and actions of our peers become ours. This (sometimes scary) reality is a big reason it’s so

In the online world, I tend to surround myself with process-driven people and professionals, as I’ve found that’s one of the best ways to motivate and align myself.

In the online world, I tend to surround myself with process-driven people and professionals, as I’ve found that’s one of the best ways to motivate and align myself. However, depending on how you engage, how much time you spend getting lost in posts, videos, and photos, or whom you follow, social media can become unhealthy without your realizing it.

important to surround ourselves with people we trust and who have an infectious sense of positivity. The same is true of social media — those we follow and engage with on social media platforms have an impact on us — sometimes a larger one than we even realize. This is why social media can be extremely powerful and positive, or it can leave us in a dark or dangerous place if misused. Social media should promote growth and motivation. It should challenge you to embrace positivity and bring a smile to your face. You must be careful that the content you view or the individuals you interact with don't drag you down and make you feel uncomfortable or bad about yourself. You should not feel the need to compare, strive to keep up, or long for something different or something “more.” Instead, it should empower you to bloom and embrace the great things in your life. It should challenge you to be the best version of yourself and be successful.

From a personal injury standpoint, I’d like to remind everyone to be careful what you share on these platforms. We cherish our clients’ happiness and want the very best for their case results. But we also know insurance companies will stop at nothing and always search for something to undermine our clients' cases. If you happen to have a positive day or a good moment and want to share, we urge you to think twice while your case is in process. Those moments can potentially be used against you, even if they are taken out of context. We urge you to stay mindful and always keep your guard up! Ultimately, the unique social media platforms we have today are fun, resourceful, practical, and engaging — just remember who you are and how you can best utilize it to benefit you and your relationships. Happy (and healthy) scrolling!

MAKE YOUR SUMMERTIME PARTIES SUSTAINABLE!

ECO-FRIENDLY ALTERNATIVES ANY HOST CAN USE

“I have practiced criminal law and been a trial lawyer for almost 30 years. When I suffered a catastrophic injury, I spoke with three different lawyers who I had known for many years to include Case Barnett. The other two lawyers were hesitant to take the case because I had signed a waiver — one refused it altogether. Case, on the other hand, did a little research and enthusiastically agreed to represent me. He assigned his outstanding and experienced associate Dena Weiss to work the case and that was it. About 24 months after hiring him, I had a very healthy six-figure settlement, a far cry from the pessimism of the other lawyers. Since hiring Case, I have heard of many other clients he has gotten good results for, and tellingly, I know of several lawyers from different fields who have referred him cases. As such, I would enthusiastically recommend Case Barnett and the Law Offices of Case Barnett for any personal injury matter.” –Marine W. Avoid disposable dishes. Yes, disposable cups, plates, and silverware make party cleanup easier. But to be more eco-friendly, you should opt for the dishes, cups, and plates you already have in your home. To make cleanup easier, empty your dishwasher ahead of time and ask your guests to pop their dirty dishes right into the washer. After they leave, you only need to add detergent and turn the machine on! Put the recycling bin in plain sight. Metal cans and plastic bottles are unavoidable at summer parties, but when guests are unsure where the recycling is in someone else's home, they usually end up in the trash. So, before the party starts, put your recycling bin in a place everyone can see, and consider labeling it. When people ask where to put their bottles and cans, say "the recycling by the [location]" instead of "the trash" to make it even more straightforward. The important thing to remember when becoming more eco- conscious is that it's okay to start small! If trying all three of these tips at once is overwhelming, begin by changing one aspect of your party to something more sustainable and celebrate saving the planet!

Summertime brings images of pool parties, backyard barbecues, Father's Day family gatherings, and endless get-togethers with loved ones. But these countless parties usually come with elaborate decorations and disposable dishes. While they make your party festive and easy to clean, they end up in the dump, where they'll sit for years. Even worse, they could get into our oceans and harm endangered sea life. However, you can still host fantastic summertime celebrations without sacrificing sustainability. So, if you're looking to turn up the hosting heat, here are three ways to entertain your guests while remaining eco-friendly. Reuse home decor. If you have an indoor party, consider printing theme-appropriate images from the internet and inserting them into the picture frames you already have hanging. Or, grab a garland from your Christmas decoration box and weave in some fresh flowers from your yard or local nursery to fit the season. Consider dragging potted plants closer to the action for outdoor festivities and draping them with your Christmas lights to create a relaxing and enchanting ambiance!

OUR CLIENTS SAY IT BEST “Case Barnett Law is an outstanding law firm that helped me through a lawsuit involving a traumatic brain injury. They have a wonderful team. Their paralegal Paige Smoot was always prompt in keeping me updated on my case. Conor Mulvaney, my attorney, was especially helpful. He took the time to explain

each step in the legal process and made me feel like I had someone in my corner. More than any of that, Conor went the extra mile to get to know me and the pain I went through. It really made me feel like he and the law firm had my best interest in mind. I am very grateful to have had Conor Mulvaney and Case Barnett Law represent me and would recommend their services to anyone and everyone.” –Gregory W.

SEAFOOD PASTA SALAD

All of us, in some way or another, are shaped by technology. Many use phones and laptops for work. Some enjoy playing video games. Others rely on gadgets like Kindles and tablets for entertainment. We are likely guilty of watching too much television or surfing the web a bit longer than we should. While technology is extremely broad and offers many ways to connect, unwind, stay connected and entertained, we continually stay “plugged in” for far too long. Unplugging is a necessity in a world connected via technology and various social platforms — especially when it comes to precious family time. Life is short. Take time to embrace human relationships and connect organically with those who matter the most. If you have children, you know they crave your attention and are intuitive. Young ones pick up cues and know when they don’t have your full attention or are sharing your focus with a laptop or phone. Even if you are hanging out doing nothing, unplugging and being physically and emotionally present is essential. You’ll notice your relationships, attitudes, and happiness are enhanced when you do that. These genuine exchanges improve how we interact with one another. It’s important to carve out time for your loved ones without phones or electronics, especially with summer approaching. Plan a hike, spend time in the backyard, visit the beach, or take a trip to the local zoo or park. There are so many ways to unplug for the day, or just a few hours, to make time for those who matter the most. PUTTING TECHNOLOGY ON THE BACKBURNER HERE’S TO UNPLUGGING!

Summer has finally arrived, and many of us will be going on weeklong excursions to the coast to get some much-needed rest and relaxation by the beach. For years, the beach has been one of the most popular summertime destinations for Americans, with millions of us flocking to the coast every year. If you’re planning to hit the sand this summer, you should prepare some exciting activities, so you and your family or travel partners can create memories that will last a lifetime. MASTER THE WAVES OCEAN ACTIVITIES THE ENTIRE FAMILY WILL LOVE

a great way to explore the underwater world. You’ll be able to spot fish, crustaceans, and other sea life without needing extensive training. Those who regularly go snorkeling see it as a form of therapy that helps them relieve stress and anxiety. Feeling more relaxed and at peace will help make your vacation feel even more magical. Grab a board. If you want to experience something slightly more intense, you can try some of the many ocean activities involving a board. First-time ocean-goers will love using a boogie board or bodyboard to ride the waves into shore. Those who are more experienced may enjoy surfing for the first time or renting a standing paddleboard. Many beaches on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts have paddleboard rentals or surfing lessons. Be on the lookout at your vacation destination if you want to take advantage of these exciting activities. Tour the ocean. You may want to get away from the beach and experience open waters beyond the shore. If that’s the case, you’ll want to see if your vacation destination offers glass-bottom boat or submarine tours. Some beaches even have whale-watching adventures, which provide an excellent opportunity to see some of nature’s largest creatures in their natural habitat.

Here are a few oceanside activities you’ll want to check out on your vacation.

Explore through snorkeling. Many people want to try scuba diving while on vacation but don’t have the time, training, and finances required to go on an excursion. That being said, you can get pretty close to the scuba-diving experience by snorkeling. Using a snorkel in the ocean, especially in flat water, is
