USA MEN’S OLYMPIC TEAM 2024 RESULTS
PARIS, FRANCE • JULY 27-AUGUST 10, 2024
Boasting a Hall of Fame roster, the U.S. withstood a couple of significant challenges to go 6-0 and capture a fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal and 17th overall. Featuring super- stars LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant and coached by Steve Kerr, the Americans got major contributions throughout the roster, including five players leading the team in scoring in the six games. That pattern began in the opener as Durant — the U.S. Olympic career scoring leader who had missed all five USA Basketball Showcase exhibition games with a calf injury — came off the bench and hit his first eight shots, all in the first half, en route to 23 points in a 110-84 victory over Nikola Jokic and Serbia. James almost had a second Olympic triple-double with 21 points, nine assists and seven rebounds. Facing a South Sudan team that nearly upset the Americans in the USA Basketball Showcase (101-100) and was in its first Olympics, the U.S. was prepared for the rematch. Behind tough defense and Bam Adebayo notching 18 points, seven rebounds and two blocks, the U.S. prevailed 103-86 to clinch first place in Group C and a spot in the quarterfinals. James, the NBA’s all-time scoring leader, hit two milestones, reaching 300 points and 100 assists. James entered the Olympics as the Americans’ career assists leader and No. 3 in points. The U.S. wrapped up group play by clinching the top seed in the knockout rounds with a 104-83 win over Puerto Rico. Anthony Edwards came off the bench to pour in 26 points. Durant had four rebounds to pass Carmelo Anthony’s 125 for the U.S. career mark. In the quarterfinals against Brazil, Joel Embiid had 14 points and seven rebounds in the first half, Devin Booker had team-best 18 points and Durant added 11 to become the overall U.S. scoring leader during a 122-87 triumph. Durant surpassed Lisa Leslie’s 488 points. Again facing Serbia, this time with a spot in the gold medal game on the line, Curry shook himself out of a shooting slump by scoring 17 of his 36 points in the first quarter and the U.S. erased a 17-point second quarter deficit in a 95-91 victory. James became the first Olympian with two triple-doubles and just the fourth in history with 16 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists, while Embiid added 19 points, including seven during the fourth quarter as the U.S. overcame Serbia’s 13-point lead. Curry’s 36 points were one shy of Anthony’s Olympic-record 37 in 2012 vs. Nigeria. France, playing before a raucous home crowd, was the only thing that stood between the U.S. and gold. Curry was again the clutch performer, hitting four fourth quarter 3-pointers and finishing with 24 points to say “Night, night!” to the host country in a 98-87 victory that earned the U.S. a fifth gold medal in a row. Curry had eight 3-pointers in the game. Durant became the first Olympian to win four gold medals, while James — the oldest player in U.S. history at 39 years, 7 months, 11 days — joined Anthony as a three-time gold medalist, this one coming 12 years after his previous gold. James, who won a bronze in his Olympic debut 20 years prior in Athens, also joined Durant as the only four-time medalists. Durant holds the U.S. career Olympic record for points with 518 and rebounds at 137, while James holds the assists mark with 139, 51 of which came in Paris.
