USA WOMEN’S U19 WORLD CUP TEAM 2023 RESULTS
MADRID, SPAIN • JULY 15-23, 2023
The journey to a third straight FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup gold medal began with an 85-66 USA victory over Mali. Mali scored four of the first six points in the contest but the 4-2 score favoring Mali evaporated in four minutes of game time behind a 12-0 USA run. The U.S. led by at least two possessions for the remainder of period and by 10-plus points from the second quarter to the final buzzer. The team improved to 2-0 with a 100-46 victory over Germany. The trio of Joyce Edwards (12 points), Chloe Kitts (9) and Grace VanSlooten (8) combined for 29 of the USA’s 45 first half points. The U.S. finished with 62 points in the paint in the wire-to-wire win. Edwards led all scorers with 21 points to go with nine rebounds. Kitts recorded the first American double-double of the tournament with 18 points and 13 rebounds. The Americans clinched the top overall spot in Group B with a 112-49 victory over Chinese Taipei. Defense was the story of the game for the U.S. In the first quarter, the team held their opponent to 4-of-21 shooting from the field, including 0-for-9 from 3-point range. Chinese Taipei didn’t connect on their first 3-pointer until midway through the second quarter but at that point the Americans already led by double figures (35-17). The U.S. clinched a quarterfinals spot after defeating Argentina 112-36 in the Round of 16. The team held Argentina to a single point, a free throw, and 0-for-11 shooting which helped build a 27-6 USA lead. Argentina’s basketless streak carried into the second quarter as their next field goal (layup) did not occur until the 2:43 mark. At that point, the U.S. was com- fortably ahead 47-10. In the end, Allie Ziebell led all scorers with 20 points. The team took one step closer to gold with a 121-61 victory over Czech Republic in the quarterfinals. The Americans shot 55.3% (24-45 FG) in the first 20 minutes, including 16 assists on 24 made baskets which helped the team to a 62-25 lead at halftime. While the opponent scored 16 of the first 23 points in the third quarter, the U.S. kept applying offensive pressure and scored 120+ points for the first time during the tournament. Joyce Edwards (23 points) had her second game of 20+ points while Hannah Hidalgo had a points-assists double-double (16 pts, 13 asts). The Americans took a decisive 80-57 semifinals victory over France. After 10 minutes, the contest was tied at 20. In the second, Breya Cunningham gave the U.S. their first lead of the game, 24-22, on a putback. The lead would expand from there as the red, white and blue took a 48-30 lead to half. While France went on to score five quick points to open the third period, it would be the closest they would get for the remainder of the game. In a thrilling championship the U.S. defeated Spain 69-66. The USA controlled the first half after taking their first lead, 16-14, in the opening frame and their largest first-half lead, 26- 16, with 7:00 left in the second quarter. However, Spain responded with a 14-2 run to take the lead 30-28 with 3:00 minutes left. The two teams entered the second half tied at 34and traded baskets throughout the second half as neither squad led by double-digits the rest of the way. By the end, the contest was knotted up at 66 with 28 seconds remaining. With gold on the line, Cotie McMahon spun her way to the hoop for the go-ahead basket before Hannah Hidalgo stole the ball away from Spain the next possession. A free throw plus a defensive stop as the buzzer sounded sealed the win in front of 7,033 hometown fans.
Joyce Edwards and Hannah Hidalgo were named to the event’s All-Star Five.

USA WOMEN’S U19 WORLD CUP TEAM 2019 RESULTS
BANGKOK, THAILAND • JULY 20-28, 2019
The USA U19 World Cup Team reclaimed the top of the podium in dramatic fashion. Coached by Jeff Walz, the USA was led by Paige Bueck- ers, who earned FIBA U19 World Cup MVP honors and Rhyne Howard. Leading 39-34 at halftime in its opener against Australia, the USA took control of the game with a 21-4 third-quarter output and rolled in for the 79-56 victory. Bueckers led the balanced attack with 11 points. The USA tallied 52 points in the paint and compiled a 55-23 rebounding advantage in an 89-67 win over South Korea as Fran Belibi led with 18 points. Led by a game-high 18 points from Howard, the USA sailed past Hungary 95-50 to close preliminary round play. The U.S. outscored Germany 23-14 in the third quarter and claimed a 79-61 round of 16 victory as Bueckers and Celeste Taylor led the U.S. scoring with 13 points each. Behind a smothering defensive effort, the USA allowed just 16 first half points and rolled to a dominating 81-46 victory over Canada in the quarterfinals. Howard led the team with 14 points. Trailing by a point with 3:16 remaining in the game, the Americans scored the final nine points of the contest and came away with a 67-59 semifinal victory over Belgium. The USA’s gold medal run was bookended by rival Australia. However, unlike the opener, the final game was one neither the USA or Australia could ever fully get control of, and the USA gritted out a 74-70 overtime victory to claim gold. With Australia owning a 66-63 lead and in possession of the ball with 14 seconds left, a USA victory looked extremely unlikely. However, an unsportsmanlike foul sent the U.S. to the line where Caitlin Clark made one of the two free throws. Receiving the ball out-of- bounds, Hailey Van Lith, who finished with 16 points, made a back-door cut to the basket and Bueckers, who led the USA offense with 17 points, lofted a pass to her for the game-tying points. Australia struck first in overtime for a 68-66 lead, but the USA closed out the game on a 8-2 run for the 74-70 golden win.

USA WOMEN’S U19 WORLD CUP TEAM 2017 RESULTS
CIVIDALE DEL FRIULI & UDINE, ITALY • JULY 22-30, 2017
The 2017 USA U19 World Cup Team fell four points shy of gold and returned home with the silver medal and a 6-1 record. Led by Suzie McConnell-Serio, the USA squad was led by all-tournament team members Chennedy Carter, who averaged a team-best 16.1 ppg., and Tyasha Harris, who averaged 8.0 ppg. and 5.7 apg. In its opening game, led by 19 points from Alecia Sutton, the USA outscored Mali 47-26 in the second half and ran away with a 95-58 win. All 12 players scored, including a high of 14 points by Joyner Holmes, as the American women cut down China 91-51. Crystal Dangerfield and Harris scored a team-high 11 points apiece and Dangerfield dished out nine assists as the USA closed out the preliminary round with a 66-49 win over host Italy. Meeting up with Puerto Rico in the round of 16, the islanders were no match for the USA in a 104-46 lopsided finish. Ruthy Hebard led with 21 points and nine boards and Harris dished out a USA U19 single-game record 10 assists. Holding France to an icy 29.9 percent shooting from the field, the Americans knocked off France 78-51 in the medal quarterfinals. Four U.S. athletes scored in double digits, paced by Carter’s 18 points. A 33-6 run that spanned the second and third quarters helped the USA clinch a 73-66 victory over Japan in the semifinals. Hebard led the charge with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Facing also unbeaten Russia in a rematch of the 2015 Final, Carter scored 31 points for the USA, Bella Alarie grabbed 12 rebounds and Harris had nine assists, but it was not enough to overcome Russia, which got 33 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists from forward Raisa Musina and 26 points and 18 rebounds from center and tournament MVP Maria Vadeeva in the USA’s 86-82 loss. The game featured 24 lead changes, and the USA’s largest lead was only eight points. Hebard gave the U.S. its final lead with 3:23 to play, 75- 74. Down the stretch the Europeans shot 3-of-5 from the floor, forced two turnovers by the USA and hit 6-of-9 from the line as it outscored the U.S. 12-7 over the last 3:08 for the win.
