2025 RESULTS
IRAPUATO, MEXICO • JUNE 16-22, 2025
Claiming the gold medal at the 2025 FIBA U16 Women’s AmeriCup from June 16-22 in Irapuato, Mexico, the United States continued their dominant streak in the event, earning their fifth straight gold medal and eighth overall. The Americans kicked off play with a commanding 113-52 win over Venezuela. Ivanna Wilson Manyacka scored 15 of her 18 points in the first quarter while the U.S. worked to a 50-29 lead. Defense led to offense in the second half as the USA racked up 25 steals, while Micah Ojo matched Wilson Manyacka with 18 points. Six Americans got into double-figures scoring in the opening victory. Intense defensive intensity once again set the tone in game two, as the United States held Puerto Rico to only nine first-half points en route to an eventual 138-38 victory – setting the single-game scoring record for the event. Wilson Manyacka nabbed 9 steals, and Reese Gilpatrick scored 20 points while all 12 U.S. players tallied points in the 100-point triumph. A 22-0 first-quarter run opened up the final group stage game against Argentina, with the Americans allowing just 17 first-half points to cruise to a 101-46 win. Eve Long led the way for the red, white and blue with 17 points to help the USA stand alone atop Group A heading into the knockout round. The USA’s most dominant showing came in their quarterfinal matchup against Panama, a 131-12 victory to break their own record for the highest margin of victory at the event (119). Their defensive strength was flexed all game, opening the game on a 44-0 run and going up 76-8 at the half. The United States’ 39 assists also surpassed their previous competition record of 33 vs. Mexico in 2021. Mexico challenged the U.S. early in their semifinal matchup, with the Americans trailing 7-2 before capturing the lead and not relinquishing it for the remainder of the contest. Wilson Manyacka led the charge of six U.S. players in double-figures with 21 points with the Americans gradually expanding their lead, ultimately winning 112-50. In the final, the USA faced off with Canada, winning their tightest game of the tournament 85-59 to take home the gold medal. The United States fell back on their defense once again early on, forcing 10 first-quarter turnovers to build a 30-17 lead after 10 minutes. From there the U.S. remained in cruise control, slowly adding to their lead without allowing any significant runs from the Canadians. Ojo led all scorers in the gold medal matchup with 18 points, and Wilson Manyacka earned a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds — her final act on the way to being named the tournament’s MVP. Long would join her on the All-Star Five team.
