USA WOMEN’S U16 FIBA AMERICAS TEAM 2015 RESULTS
PUEBLO, MEXICO • JUNE 24-28, 2015
The U.S. women suffered their first loss in U16 history to Brazil in the semifinals of the 2015 FIBA Americas U16 Championship and returned home from Pueblo, Mexico, with the bronze medal after rebounding to down host Mexico in the bronze medal game. Led by Dori Oldaker, the USA opened with an 80-48 win over Argentina on June 24. Alexis Morris finished with 16 points, three steals and three assists; Andra Espinoza-Hunter scored 16 points to go with five rebounds; and Honesty Scott-Grayson added 10 points, seven re- bounds and three assists. The U.S. earned an 86-41 win over Honduras on June 25. Scott-Grayson led with 18 points. Jayda Adams and Sedona Prince had 10 points apiece, while Aquira DeCosta and Valencia Myers each collected eight rebounds. The USA wrapped up its preliminary round play with an 85-44 win over host Mexico that saw the USA win the rebounding battle 70-23, score 50 points in the paint and limit its opponent to just 25.9 percent shooting from the field. Destiny Littleton led with 17 points and seven rebounds; Morris added 15 points and four assists; DeCosta finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds; and Myers scored 10 points. After fighting back from being down by as many as 22 points in the game to pull within six points in the fourth quarter, the USA’s comeback attempt fell short against Brazil, and the U.S. lost 72-63 in the semifinals. The USA got 21 points from Morris. The USA’s effort, however, was not enough to overcome 24 points from Brazil’s Izabela Leite and 20 points from Obalunanma Ugwu. The USA quickly rebounded and in the bronze game, which was a rematch with host Mexico, the USA jumped to an 8-0 lead and never looked back on the way to an 81-24 victory on June 28. Four players reached double-figure scoring, including Williams with 11 points and 12 rebounds, Morris with 11 points and Espinoza-Hunter and Littleton with 10 points each. Additionally, Caldwell had 12 rebounds, while Prince collected 11 boards and Adams dished out six assists. Canada (5-0) won the gold medal with a 72-71 overtime win over Brazil (3-2), which took home silver, and Canada’s Alyssa Jerome was named MVP of the tournament.
