USA WOMEN’S U18 AMERICAS TEAM 2010 RESULTS

The 2010 USA Basketball Women’s U18 National Team topped its five opponents by an average of 55.8 ppg. as it easily cruised to an unde- feated, 5-0 record and the 2010 FIBA Americas U18 Championship gold medal June 23-27 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The U.S. attack was led by Chiney Ogwumike, who averaged team-highs of 13.2 ppg. and 7.4 rpg., and Bria Hartley, who scored 10.6 ppg. and dished out a 4.0 apg. In its first contest on June 23, nine players scored at least six points to lead the USA to a 91-32 win over Argentina. Ogwumike tallied 15 points and 12 rebounds in 15 minutes, followed by Stefanie Dolson with 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting and Kayla McBride with 10 points. The following evening, the USA launched a 13-2 run within the first three minutes of play before it sailed to an 89-46 win over Brazil. With 15 points, Ogwumike led four U.S. players in double figures, including Hartley (14), Alexis Jones (12) and Kayla McBride (10). Against Puerto Rico on June 25, the USA received double-figure point production from eight players as the Americans rolled 108-44. Topped by Diamond DeShield’s 14 points, seven other U.S. players scored in double figures, including Reshanda Gray (12), Cassie Harberts (10), Hart- ley (10), Jones (10), Ally Malott (11), Ogwumike (10) and Cassie Peoples (10). Another quick start and strong finish pushed the USA on June 26 to a 98-28 win over Chile in the semifinals. Ogwumike again led the USA with 17 points, McBride added 10 points and Theresa Plaisance tallied 11. The USA lived up to expectations with an 81-38 victory over Brazil on June 27 and finished with a perfect, 5-0 mark in the tournament to claim the USA’s fourth straight U18 gold medal. Howard led the USA against Brazil with 12 points, Hartley scored 11, as did Plaisance.
