Crane City: A Look at Austin’s Infrastructure

Awais Azhar serves as the Executive Director of HousingWorks Austin, where he works to support affordable housing development, anti-displacement strategies, and various attainable housing initiatives through research, education, and advocacy. Prior to his current role, he served as the Deputy Director at the organization. For over a decade, Awais has advocated for affordability and mobility opportunities in Austin in various capacities. Awais has a Master of Science in Community and Regional Planning and a Master of Public Affairs and is currently a Community and Regional Planning Ph.D. Candidate at The University of Texas at Austin.

Jason Alexander is the Deputy Chief of Airport Affairs for the City of Austin’s Department of Aviation (Austin-Bergstrom International Airport), bringing more than 20 years of public administration experience. He oversees the Airport Affairs Division, leading local, state, and federal government relations, serving as liaison to the Airport Advisory Commission, and coordinating with the City Manager’s Office, Mayor and City Council, legislative delegations, and other partners.

He also manages the department’s records functions.

Jason Alexander

Jason joined the Department of Aviation in 2023 after nearly two decades with the City of Austin.

Since 2004, he has held multiple leadership roles across city departments, most recently serving as Chief of Staff to the City Manager and as part of the City’s executive management team. He holds a BBA from the University of Texas at Austin, an MPA from Texas State University, and a Project Management Certificate from George Washington University.

He is active in several professional associations.
