6.3 Unpaid Time Off (UTO) This section, which had been inadvertently omitted in a previous handbook edition, has now been reinstated. Please review the policy for eligibility and request procedures. Hourly employees earn 0.03846 hours of Unpaid Time Off (UTO) for every credited hour worked. You can begin using unpaid time off once you’ve completed your introductory period. Requesting Time Off If you need to take unpaid time off, please give your supervisor at least two hours’ notice whenever possible. All requests must be approved in advance and will depend on staffing needs, workload, and scheduling. Supervisors can approve unpaid time off in hourly increments if you only need part of the day. Accrual Limits You can earn up to 80 hours of UTO. Once you reach that cap, no additional time will accrue until your balance drops below 80 hours. You may carry over up to 20 hours of unused UTO each year; however, accrual pauses once your balance reaches the 80-hour maximum. Unplanned Absences If you have an unexpected absence due to illness, a family emergency, or another urgent situation, be sure to get in touch with your supervisor as soon as possible. Approval may be granted after the fact, based on the circumstances.
