Bravo for the Festival of the Bean

of practising and perfecting his skills during previous Bean Fests. In the Social Club category, le Bel Âge de Treadwell regained its title, this time re- presented by cooks Lyne Bercier Charbon- neau and André Charbonneau. In the Professional division, the Restau- rant Le Plateau du Carrefour from Lachute edged out its fellow competitor from Qué- bec, la Sucrerie de Bellefeuille of Sainte- Marthe, for the title. The People’s Choice Award for best recipe was awarded to Beans by Lyne, presented by cooks Lyne and Michel Charbonneau of Curran. They also earned the Best Cauldron in East Ontario Award.

PLANTAGENET | Not even a little rain, or a regular downpour, could stop baked bean lovers from heading to Plantagenet for the annual BeanFest over the Sept. 20 weekend, a tribute to the growing popu- larity of the regional event. The Amateur Bean division saw 16 home cooks stirring the pot, creating problems for both the judges and the spectators in deci- ding who had the best recipe. In the end Raymond Borris of Plantagenet scored the highest marks after three years
