I’m Not a Rodeo Cowboy by Doug Schmidt, 1989
Ever since I was a young boy, I knew what I wanted to be. ‘Cause I’d sit and watch the westerns, bouncing on my daddy’s knee. He taught me how to rope, and taught me how to ride. “Said a real workin’ cowboy holds his head up high.” I’m not a Rodeo Cowboy, and that ain’t just by chance. Gimme a home-cooked meal, and a job on any ranch. ‘Cause I don’t ride the bulls, and I don’t ride bareback broncs. Me and my old cow horse, will take on any job.
I don’t need all the attention, or the cheering of the fans. You keep me in my saddle, and I’ll keep ridin’ for the brand. And I’ll raise my kids and family, in this lifestyle I love. And I’ll grow tired and old and happy, with a little bit of help from Above. I’m not a Rodeo Cowboy, and that ain’t just by chance. Gimme a home-cooked meal, and a job on any ranch. ‘Cause I don’t ride the bulls and I don’t ride bareback broncs. But me and my old cow horse, will take on any job. (And a little cattle dog.)
