The Estates Strategy starts from a position of considerable strength. Job Title Deputy Director of Estates and Facilities (Capital. Property and Space) Department Estates and Facilities Directorate (EFD) Role reports to Executive Director of Estates and Facilities

Main activities and responsibilities: • Deputise for the Executive Director of Estates and Facilities as required and therefore taking responsibility for reporting to the Senior Leadership Team; leading the Estates Department; developing and maintaining relationships with internal/external partners; and representing the University as the lead officer for the Estates Department as required. • Support the Director in the development, delivery and periodic review of the Estates Strategy and reporting KPIs. • Responsibility for the preparation, monitoring and delivery of annual and key performance indicators, working closely with the Finance Department. • Actively contribute to the work of the Estates Senior Leadership Team and take responsibility for cross-divisional initiatives and performance. • Lead and take overall responsibility for the space Systems Management and the provision of data. Coordinate and deliver the continued development and integration of department systems to enhance the management of the estate. • Lead and support the Space utilisation, space group and university policy. • Lead and take responsibility for the Property team, including all department budgets Capital, Property and Space expenditure plans, forecasts

Purpose of role To support the Executive Director of Estates and Facilities in the strategic leadership and effective management of the Estates department and to take responsibility for the leadership of Capital, Property and Space teams within the department. More generally to ensure the department maintains its focus on delivering key University objectives and adopts a proactive, customer focused approach in the delivery of services which support high quality environments for students, staff and other stakeholders.

Experience and skills Essential • An ability to implement high-level strategic plans, prioritise objectives and contribute effectively to the preparation of such plans • Extensive experience of delivery and achievement at a senior management level • Strong leadership experience of complex teams • A proven track record in the delivery of large building projects and a wide range of customer-focused estates and facilities services • Experience of working closely with and directing professional staff and advisers • An understanding of the legal and financial aspects of major projects, property issues and landlord/tenant relationships • Experience of managing contracts and ensuring the best possible outcomes are achieved in these relationships • Extensive experience of managing large budgets, including capital expenditure and revenue. • A widely based understanding of resource management, including personnel, premises, residential accommodation. Desirable • Previous experience of working in Higher Education Sector • Understanding of Mechanical and Electrical services. • Listed buildings • Experience of sustainability/ environmental policies and maintaining ISO14001 certification • Experience of the landlord and tenant act//leases and licences.

Qualifications Essential • A degree or similar-level qualification in a relevant subject area • Membership of a relevant body Desirable • A recognised qualification in project Management or other relevant discipline • A recognised qualification in listed and heritage buildings • Ideally a related postgraduate qualification
