Cordless high-RPM sharpening tools, like ArborEdge, are best for effectively sharpening teeth or blades on tree care equipment.

Companies like ArborEdge Tools , Stens , and Green Manufacturing offer innova- tive solutions to simplify maintenance. ArborEdge provides high-quality sharp- ening tools tailored to stump grinders and chippers, while Green Manufactur- ing’s durable “Greenteeth” are designed for long-lasting performance and ease of maintenance. Stens complements these products with a broad range of replace- ment parts and sharpening stones. INSIGHTS FROM ARBOREDGE TOOLS Chris Duhaime with ArborEdge Tools explained that the typical timeframe to have chippers and stump grinders sent out and re-tipped is between one to three weeks. This downtime can disrupt operations, making in-house sharpening a more practical solution. With ArborEdge’s sharpening tools, ar- borists can file the teeth in-shop in a mat- ter of 30 minutes or less. “It takes less time as you get used to the tool, but it’s a pretty quick process,” Duhaime added.

•Inspection: Check for cracks, chips, or uneven wear before and after each use. •Lubrication: Keep moving parts well-lubricated to reduce friction and wear.

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHILE USING ARBOREDGE’S TOOLS:

• The tools require a machine that can run at 10,000 RPMs or higher to effectively sharpen teeth or blades. Using a machine with lower RPMs will not provide the necessary cut- ting power. • While 10,000 RPMs is the mini- mum, ArborEdge recommends us- ing a machine that can reach 25,000 RPMs for optimal sharpening perfor- mance. • Pneumatic (air-powered) tools are not recommended, as the air compression can cause RPMs to fluctuate, leading to inconsistent sharpening. • ArborEdge suggests users consider either cordless or corded high-RPM tools, as long as they meet the speed requirements. “Our goal is to cut a company’s tooling cost by 50 percent. And I think we can

Greenteeth® is a cutting-edge tooth and pocket sys- tem that allows for each tooth to be turned up to three times before it needs replacing.
