As American domestic energy policy shifts toward the promotion of carbon neutral and renewable energy technologies, the spectre of nuclear energy looms over public perception. Nuclear energy is often believed to be dangerous, expensive, and a potential security threat; however, it accounted for 19% of total US electricity generation in 2021 and holds itself as an efficient and clean energy source that can compete with fossil fuels, solar, and wind power. Advanced small modular reactors are the technology of the future in maintaining and improving that nuclear edge over competitors, while also mitigating traditional hazards through flexibility, scalability, and efficiency within present infrastructure. Camden Phillips (session 8) - see Agcaoili Laci Phillips - “Non-Pharmacological Therapy to Decrease Blood Pressure” (session 10) Patients diagnosed with hypertension have a higher risk of developing heart disease or having a stroke. An educational pamphlet was developed to describe non-pharmacological ways to reduce hypertension. Components included a Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet, weight loss, a consistent routine of walking, smoking cessation, and others.. Teaching these therapies will help patients live a healthy life with hypertension and decrease the risk of stroke or heart disease Lorena Piaggi - “College Students Have More Risks In Suffering Mental Health Problems” (poster session) Higher education can be a difficult and stressful time in the life of students, they have more risks in suffering from mental health problems. College students were surveyed to determine the amount of depression, stress, anxiety, and eating disorders they are experiencing. Additionally, perception of adequate mental health resources was measured. Results were compared with various demographics such as sex, age, ethnic group, and international student or not. Trends regarding the amount of struggles students are having and the categories this falls into will be discussed. Tyler Polley - “Chronic Wasting Disease” (poster session) There's a disease that hunters don't like and it's Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). CWD is a prion disease that attacks the neurologic systems in deer, elk, and moose. Symptoms of Chronic Wasting Disease include drastic weight loss, stumbling, and listlessness. Deer infected with CWD may not always show symptoms of the disease. CWD is transmitted through direct contact of bodily fluids or ingesting meat, brain tissue or vegetation in the area an infected deer died. CWD was first identified in captive deer. Infected deer from game farms escaped and infected wild deer in several states as they were in transport from one game farm to another. Chronic Wasting Disease continues to spread within and among wild and domestic deer populations. Without prevention measures, CWD could become common throughout the United States. Rubal Pradhan - “Aluminum and its Impact on the World (session 4) This project explores the question "What is the contribution of Aluminum and its compounds to humanity throughout the history of the world?" I explain the importance of aluminum and its compounds throughout history; starting from how they originated to how they are being used in present day and whether there is a change in relevancy for the compounds from past days to present. I will also be talking about the stories and narratives surrounding the compounds and its
