AT GOES ON “I can’t tell you how excited we are about the growth of the drumline over the last three years,” begins Athletic Director Ross Hailey when asked to comment on MRA’s Drumline. And Coach Hailey is correct! The drumline has grown since its inception five years ago when it began with five drummers: one on snare, two on bass, one on tenors, and one on cymbals. Now we have 20 middle school and high school students play- ing multiple instruments on a drumline that includes three snares, three bass drums, two tenors, three cymbals, three tambourines, and three trumpets. The sound, look, and en- ergy is noticeably greater with the larger team. Not only has the team grown in numbers, it has also progressed in talent, skill, and enthusiasm. Coach Matt Bramuchi is proud of the development of the team, “They have taken on responsibili- ties of learning to read music, running flags, and putting on mini-performances.”
Under Mr. Bramuchi’s leadership, the team has dramatically added to the spirit of football season making MRA’s gameday experience one of the best in the state. According to Coach Hailey, “The energy they bring to the games is fantastic. The football team loves hearing them celebrate big plays. Pep rallies are more exciting and our overall gameday experience is better due to the drumline.” President of the Board of Trustees, Alan Hart, also commented on the difference the team has made in the game atmosphere, “They have had a substantial influ- ence on the gameday experience for both players and fans. The drumline has taken it to the next level.” Just as all phases of the school have now reached another level of excellence, MRA’s Drumline has as well! -Beth Yerger
