BOYS BASKETBALL MRA, ranked No. 1 in the State among MAIS schools and in the Top 10 among all schools public and private for much of the season, finished 33-7 under longtime coach Rich- ard Duease. The Patriots won 26 of their first 28 games - highlighted by winning the Junior Orange Bowl Classic in Miami and nine wins over top-flight public school compe- tition - before losing five of their last 12. MRA suffered an overtime loss in the State Championship game and saw its season end with an upset loss to Jackson Academy in the Overall semifinals. Junior guard Josh Hubbard, a Dandy Dozen pick, averaged a team-high 28.8 points per game and eclipsed 3,000 career points. Junior forward Harrison Alexander averaged 14.7 points per game. Hubbard was named the Class 6A Player of the Year. Alexander was also an All-Conference selection.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY Under the leadership of Coach Trace Walters, the boys’ cross country team improved significantly for the 2021 season. The Patriots finished in third place at the State meet. Sophomore Jo- nas Cox was MRA’s top individual finisher and is returning as one of the top runners in the MAIS. A young, talented roster looks to have success in the future. GIRLS BASKETBALL Coach Stephen Force guided his team to a 31-6 overall re- cord, 7-3 in conference play. The Lady Patriots finished in third place during the regular season, before bowing out in the consolation game of the State Tournament. MRA, led by juniors Riley Hancock (13.2 ppg.) and Ella Wesley Davis (12.4 ppg.), compiled a 19-game winning streak after starting 1-1, including a pair of wins over Gulfport High and a victory over Starkville High as well as avenging an earlier loss to then top-ranked Leake Academy. Hancock and Davis were All-MAIS selections.
