MRA is honored to have known and been part of Dr. Paul Chinchen’s life and legacy. Paul, who passed away in July, was President of African Bible Colleges. He and his wife Laura have been missionaries with African Bible Colleges for al- most 30 years. The Chinchens have served with the mission in Malawi, Uganda, and Liberia. Paul has been head of the mission since 2008, and Laura is Vice Principal of Recruiting and Curriculum Development for the ABC Christian Acade- my, an international mission school the Chinchens founded in 1998. Three of the Chinchen children were born in Africa and are members of the MRA family: Levi (class of 2018), Bess (Class of 2021), and Vanndel (Class of 2023). Family was so important to Dr. Chinchen, and over the final weeks of Paul’s life he was able to watch his children shine more than ever. He saw Levi graduate from the United States Military Academy (West Point), Bess finish her first year at Point Loma on a full scholarship, Vanndel become student body president at MRA, see Annabelle his “right hand wom- an” help launch ABC’s Online Program and ABC STEM High School, proudly toured Fox News Channel’s new DC bureau where Ashley works as an Assignment Editor - and held Ashley and Cozz’s newborn, Verona Rae, for the first and last time – his first grandbaby. Just days before his passing he helped Vanndel and Bess lead the Project Juembo mission trip with our students through Malawi. The trip ended with Paul baptizing his two youngest children in Lake Malawi... af- ter the crocodiles were chased away! The legacy Dr. Chinchen leaves not only in Malawi, but also at MRA is lasting.
