AMAZING ENZYMES FOR LUMINIOUS CLEAR SKIN By Shannon Esau, CEO of Allison Cosmeceuticals and National Educator Glowing skin – it’s a look clients of all ages want to achieve. If there’s one thing that never goes out of style, it’s the pursuit of luminous skin. While there are a lot of factors that contribute to skin that appears illuminated and fresh, such as sleep, nutrition and hydration, the right skincare routine will also have a dramatic impact. Proper cleansing and using a mix of corrective and skin-building ingredients are the foundation to overall skin health, but on occasion the skin needs something a bit more to, in essence, hit the reset button. This is where enzymes come in.

Enzymes break down the dead skin cells that reside on the skin’s surface and dull its appearance. And the beauty of enzymes is the range of intensities available that allow you to build a truly customized approach to supporting your clients on their path to luminous, glowing skin. In this video, we’ll explore the types of enzymes most effective for illuminating the skin and how they can be used in the treatment room as well as at home to reveal a youthful, dewy appearance. Between treatments, there are a number of factors that will help your client’s skin look its best, including maintaining a clean diet, staying hydrated and intentional lifestyle adjustments like getting plenty of sleep and staying out of the sun. Additionally, a proper skincare regimen is critical to maintain the progress made in the treatment room and boost overall skin health. But as we know, whether it’s the seasons changing or heightened levels of stress, from time to time their skin will need a little extra help. This is where enzymes come into play. There’s no better fix for dull, congested skin than leveraging enzyme masks and peels in the treatment room. Not only do they effectively balance, clarify and strengthen a client’s skin, but enzymes come in a range of intensities to allow you to tailor your approach to address each client’s unique skin needs.

Enzymes are chemicals derived from fruit and are used in skincare for their potent anti-inflammatory and exfoliating powers. They work by gently breaking down dead skin cells comprising keratin protein that reside on the skin’s surface, leaving the skin polished and dewy. Because the skin is rid of those dead skin cells, other products can be absorbed more effectively, which is especially important for serums and moisturizers. It’s not uncommon for enzyme masks to be forgotten as part of a spa’s retail sales. But there are few products your clients will appreciate more than a mask that is mild enough to use at home, while still producing meaningful results and simultaneously elevating the rest of their home care regimen. With this in mind, let’s explore how enzymes can be used to address different skin concerns in the treatment room and at home, and still leave skin with a luminous glow: Congested and acne skin calls for regular surface exfoliation to rid the pores of the excess build up that gives your client’s skin a dull, tired look. Our Aloe- Zyme will jumpstart this process – the enzyme papain is powerful enough to dissolve keratin proteins, but is gentle enough that it can be done more often and works for all skin types, with no abrasive downsides. The cooling formula hydrates and reduces redness and inflammation. Another star for an enzyme with a kick and to clear out pustules is our Spicy Pumpkin Exfoliant . Follow
