Serious cars, local hands and a town close enough to the event that the fire department can be- come a part of the memory.

The Jenkins family brought an AHRA funny car to the show. The car drew attention before it made a sound, then it would not start. The battery was dead. The local fire department came over with a fire truck and heavy-duty jumper cables. They connected the funny car to the truck. The engine finally fired. The crowd erupted. It is hard to imagine a cleaner expression of what Highlands Motoring Festival has been trying to protect ever since: Steve told one story from the early years that still feels like the festival in miniature.
