A gardener scans the native ferns offered at this year’s Highlands Mountain Garden Club Annual Plant Sale.
Proceeds from the fundraiser go to funding their various maintenance projects and a scholarship for a graduating senior at Highlands School. In 2026, there were six students who received money for their ed- ucation through the Club. The scholarship is not dependent on one obtaining a degree in a related plant field, but is open to any pursuit of education. To further their education, Garden Club members attend programs and speakers and field trips in the summer. They are
mainly interested in beautification, but are also interested in environmental concerns, such as removing toxic chemicals from yards. The Garden Club meets monthly from March-December on the 2nd Monday of the month. Members are required to take part in the annual plant sale fundraiser and to assist in maintaining the Eckerd Living Center garden. They also serve on two committees each year.
