American Foundation For Suicide Prevention

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide. AFSP creates a culture that’s smart about mental health through education and community programs, develops suicide prevention through research and advocacy, and provides support for those affected by suicide. Through programs like More Than Sad, Signs Matter: Early Detection, and our Model School Policy, we teach schools and communities how to prevent suicide. AFSP programs and trainings teach teens to recognize the signs of depression in themselves and others, teach parents how to initiate a conversation about mental health with their child, and give educators and school administrators comprehensive ways to implement suicide prevention policies in their local community. We also strive to challenge the stigma surrounding depression, and demystify the treatment process. Suicide is the 3 rd leading cause of death of children 10 - 14 years old in Massachusetts and it is preventable - Learn the Signs. Save a life. Find out more about these programs available to you, your schools, and your community at www.afsp.org or contact the Western Mass AFSP Area Director Heather White at hwhite@afsp.org
