Pt-Cu3TeO6/C composite: excellent rate capability supercapacitor and a methanol oxidation reaction catalysts Sweta Thangriyal and G. Ranga Rao Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai 600036, India *E-mail: grrao@iitm.ac.in Transition metal oxides are limited in their electrochemical applications due to their lack of conductivity, which hinders their ability to reach their full potential. 1,2,3 To create effective electrode materials, it is necessary to have excellent electrical conductivity and anisotropic nanostructures. By designing nanostructures that increase the specific surface area and provide different types of active sites, the electrochemical performance of electrode materials can be improved. 4,5 One such material is copper tellurate (Cu 3 TeO 6 ), which has a three- dimensional web-spin structure that allows for fast electron transport while maintaining structural integrity during electrochemical reactions. In this study, Cu 3 TeO 6 and Pt- Cu 3 TeO 6 /C composite is synthesized and characterized using XRD, FTIR, Raman, and SEM with EDX. There comparative electrochemical studies were performed for supercapacitor application. This composite was found to exhibit a specific capacitance of 1116 F g-1 at 1 A g -1 and maintained a high rate specific capacitance of 261 F g -1 at 300 A g -1 . An asymmetric device was fabricated using the Pt- Cu 3 TeO 6 /C material to investigate its commercial potential for charge storage supercapacitors and electrochemical energy conversion, such as methanol oxidation reactions.
