Mechano-synthesis of Li-Mn-O spinels and rock salts as possible cathode materials Yangyang Zhao*, Xuan Zhi, Anthony R West The University of Sheffield, UK Single phase Li2MnO3, LiMn2O4, Li4Mn5O9 and Li4Mn5O12 were successfully made via mechano-synthesis. According to TG, products obtained are highly hygroscopic, while Rock salt Li2MnO3 is more hygroscopic than spinel LiMn2O4 and Li4Mn5O12. TG analysis showed three stages of weight loss, which can refer to the loss of water, carbon dioxide and oxygen. Composition Li4Mn5O9 and Li4Mn5O12 were prepared with same cation ratio and different oxygen contents. Li4Mn5O9 is a rock salt while Li4Mn5O12 is a spinel.
