Segment B: Riverside Drive to Mitchell Boulevard

Figure 15. Proposed Cross-Section

Existing

Proposed

Four, 12-foot vehicular travel lanes and a posted speed limit of 40-mph. A 5-foot sidewalk is inconsistently present along one or both sides of the street often with varying widths and distance from the street edge. There is no dedicated space for bicycling. z This is the corridor segment with highest speed limit (40 mph) and only horizontal curve which makes the intersection of East Berry Street and Cobb Park difficult to navigate. z This section of East Berry Street has an 85th percentile speed of 47 mph, 7 mph more than the posted speed limit. z There are strong connections between the nearby residential neighborhood and Cobb Park which leans towards people who walk and bike utilizing this area. z The average annual traffic volumes drop past Riverside Drive by about 10,000 vehicles per day to an AADT volume on 12,570 vehicles.

Vehicular Realm

Four, 11-foot travel lanes (undivided).

A 10-foot sidepath for walking and bicycling and other micromobility options, and an 8-foot landscape buffer on both sides of the street accommodating street trees to enhance the parklike feel. z The proposed cross-section can be accommodated within the existing right-of-way (100’). z The 5-foot frontage zone allows for room within the public right-of-way for utilities to be buried. z A planted median is proposed at this location in direct response to an identified pattern of crashes discussed in the Safety section of this chapter and will improve the potential pedestrian crossings. z The proposed median can be designed to include landscaping and vehicular lighting.
