A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7
Well what a busy week Year 7 have had this week. In tutor time they practiced their tour routes ahead of the Parent tours on Thursday and Friday and they all did so well showing off the school. It was lovely hearing Year 7
speak so proudly about all the lessons, activities and clubs they have been involved in this year. Thank you to the Year 7 performers who serenaded the Year 7 parents! As a school we hope those parents who were able to attend enjoyed this experience and found the parents information evening for Year 8, that followed the tours, useful. On Tuesday the Year 7 & 8 rounders team played against Orleans Park, it was a hard fought game but unfortunately a loss this week. On Wednesday Borough Sports took place at St Mary’s University. The team of Year 7 students who took part in the various athletic events performed really well. We are awaiting full results from the organisers but you can see some of the highlights on page 4 in our Sports Fixtures section.
Well done to the Year 7&8 cricket team who came runners-up in the RSSP cricket tournament last Thursday narrowly losing to Lady Eleanor Holles School in the final. Year 7 members were Esha K, Sakeena M, Georgia L, Mel P and Ava S. Remember to spend your Epraise points before the deadline of Friday 20th June. We will give you an update of totals in next week’s bulletin. On Monday next week Year 7 will be given a presentation entitled “Show Racism the Red Card” in which they will be taught about living in a tolerant society and given strategies on how to tackle racism. The week finishes on Friday with Sports Day. Year 7 will be competing in various events to earn points for their form and House in this exciting sporting event. Good luck to all. Who will become our Year 7 Sports Day champions?
MRS BASHFORD-HYNES, HEAD OF YEAR 7
‘Arsenic For Tea’ by Robin Stevens A murder-mystery, with two curious girls as the main protagonists – Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong. As chaos unfolds around them, they try to solve the clues like full-on detectives, but unpaid, of course. Daisy’s mother throws a tea party, with the whole family invited but when one of them mysteriously falls ill with food poisoning and then passes away Wells and Wong are suspicious. Who could have done it, and how? The book is a thrilling read, as you unpick the clues with our protagonists. To suspect a character and find out the truth is a whole adventure without having to leave home. I picked this book from the series specifically because of how suspenseful it was. Almost every character seemed like the culprit, every single one of them acted edgy, so it was even harder to work out. This is the second book in the series, so I recommend reading the first book first, but there are other books in the series as well, so if you enjoyed this one, there are many more to enjoy!
