ZACH NAVIGATES HIS FIRST SEMESTER The Beginning of a New Chapter
I know I’ve already talked about it, but now it’s finally happening. Zach is going to college! At St. Ambrose University, classes begin on Aug. 21, and Zach will officially start his first college semester. With new classes, different schedules, and unknown people, I can’t help but have a mixture of excitement and worry for him. I’m sure any parent can understand this strange feeling of suddenly letting their child go to start their first chapter as an adult. However, first things first, Zach still needs to move in! I remember my first college move-in day. My mom seemed strong as she helped me gather my things and organize my dorm room. It wasn’t until later I learned from my dad that she was an emotional mess on the drive back home! She was a trooper when setting up my dorm, and I’m not sure how my wife and I can hold ourselves together. Move- in day is a sensitive time for all parents because it’s the moment it all becomes real. You suddenly realize they aren’t hopping in the backseat for the drive home. Before I get too emotional, let’s dive into how strange it is for a first-year student to suddenly room with a total stranger!
Roommates at Zach’s university are randomly assorted, and he’ll soon be spending a great deal of time with someone he doesn’t

know. This is perhaps the biggest mystery when starting college and can become a serious challenge if two dorm mates don’t get along. Although I know Zach is naturally sociable and
All jokes aside, I know Zach will do just fine. As parents,

impresses me with his maturity, independence, and goodwill. College is the exact environment where he will flourish. Pursuing a mechanical engineering major and a theater minor, it won’t take him long to create a social circle. He plans to get involved in the college theater as soon as possible. He’ll likely make friends there that will last a lifetime. While Zach is starting a whole new chapter of his life, I am too. I was responsible for two kids, and now, suddenly, just one! Of course, he’s only two hours away, and I have a feeling he’ll be back with his laundry not long after move-in day. We can’t wait to follow him along this new journey, and we couldn’t be prouder of our son. We love you, Zach! –Mike Ulmer
Along with learning to live independently and in the same room with a stranger, he will learn many other life lessons in his first semester. Another significant challenge for him will be adjusting his meal times to a new schedule. If you’ve seen Zach, you know he’s a thin guy, but he can eat his fair share! He won’t have 24/7 “Move-in day is a sensitive time for all parents because it’s the moment it all becomes real. You suddenly realize they aren’t hopping in the backseat for the drive home.”

Shoulder arthritis pain can seriously affect a person’s daily routine since they feel pain when raising or moving their arm. If you’re feeling pain in your shoulder, it’s best to understand its cause before you try to treat it. DIFFERENT TYPES OF SHOULDER ARTHRITIS Shoulder pain can stem from different types of arthritis. The most common form is osteoarthritis, which occurs when the cartilage has been worn down over time. This can be either from age, weight, or overuse. While arthritis is more common in older adults, young people can also experience arthritis. Younger people may experience shoulder arthritis pain due to rheumatoid arthritis , an autoimmune disease where the immune system wrongly attacks healthy joints. This form of chronic arthritis can cause painful inflammation. Post-traumatic shoulder arthritis is a different type of arthritis that can occur after someone dislocates or damages their shoulder. Travel Like a Pro With TSA PreCheck PAGE 4
TSA PreCheck can bypass the full body scan or pat down. They also keep their shoes and belts on while leaving laptops and appropriately sized liquids in their carry-on bags. Finally, PreCheck passengers have a designated security line where, in March 2021, TSA reported the average wait was only 5 minutes. The vast majority of airlines and airports operating in the U.S. accept TSA PreCheck, and you can apply with an online application. You must finish registration and submit fingerprints at an in-person enrollment center, but most appointments take about 10 minutes. Five years of enrollment costs $78. At that price, even those who only book one round-trip flight a year might decide to avoid the typical security hassle. Further, many credit cards will reimburse the cost. TSA PreCheck isn’t the only method on the market. Nexus is another domestic security program, and Global Entry allows expedited processing through customs and immigration when returning to the U.S. on international flights. Which service best meets your needs depends on your travel habits. But if you fly regularly, these programs are almost certainly worth your time and money. Don’t get left behind — consider enrolling before your next trip!
When you arrive at the airport, you likely feel resigned to the hassle of waiting in a long security line and taking off your shoes. But did you know there’s an elite flight club full of people who don’t need to go through that routine? They have that privilege because TSA PreCheck has confirmed they aren’t a security threat. Best of all, the program is inexpensive and easy to join. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) began the TSA PreCheck program in 2013 to improve frequent flyers’ experience. TSA performs an enhanced security screening on applicants and issues those who pass muster a Known Traveler Number (KTN) that entitles them to fewer security checks at the airport. A TSA PreCheck registration, however, won’t let you waltz straight from the parking lot to your plane. Members must still walk through a metal detector and allow the TSA to X-ray carry-on items. But people with Don’t Remove Your Shoes REDUCE PRE-FLIGHT WAIT WITH TSA PRECHECK
