MARK GREYBER cont'd

to get away from the whole setup. Once in the East, she remained and it was many weeks since she had gone. So Mr. Greyber was not only unhappy but very lonely too. Instead of trying to remedy the sit uation by changing his whole atti tude in the matter and admitting he had been wrong all along, he only worked the harder, thinking that by so doing he’d get along all right without his family as well as with out God. It was just about that time that I came riding along into Greyber- ville. I was there for a couple of days not sure just which way to go when I left. His look was one of blankness. He tried to move and couldn’t. “ Just take it easy,” I said, “ you’ll be all right in a few minutes.” He was real quiet for a while and I was beginning to wonder if he was going to pass out again. Then he opened his eyes and this time they were showing a bit more life. Look ing at me with a puzzled stare for what seemed a long time, he finally said with much effort, “ You’re a stranger. Sure glad you came along. I’m Mark Greyber and my ranch is a couple miles north.” He fin ished pretty much out of breath. “ I’m glad to meet you, Mr. Grey-
