Majorité francophone La population de 48 000 habitants des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (les T.N.-O. à cette époque englobent ce qui est aujourd’hui l’Alberta) compte environ 20 000 catholiques (majoritairement francophones) et 8 000 protestants (majoritairement anglophones).
