A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 8

Having been back in school for two weeks, we are well and truly back into the swing of things. Year 8 has been enjoying making chocolate moulds in food technology. There have been some very imaginative designs and packaging which was wonderful to see and they looked very tasty - indeed!

MRS LYDDON, HEAD OF YEAR 8 A reminder that in this hot weather students should wear sun cream and bring a water bottle with them, which can be refilled at any of the water points around the school. Students are also advised to bring a hat to shield their faces from the sun when outside. Thank you for all your support and here’s to another busy week at Waldegrave! It was wonderful to see over 40 year 8 students putting themselves forward for the London Boroughs Schools Athletics Championships team which took place this week. We have a very strong team representing the year group and we look forward to sharing the results with you next week, in the meantime you can read some of the highlights in the Sports Fixtures section on page 3. It is always fantastic to see students involving themselves in school activities beyond the classroom. Our top three epraise forms are 8PUN, 8PIR and 8FLE so very well done to those forms. Topping our epraise individual leaderboard this week are; Lily W (8FLE), Amanda H (8FLE) and Rima G (8FFR) - very well done! Looking forward to next week, we have an exciting presentation scheduled. On Monday, a guest speaker will talk to the Year 8s about engineering. Additionally, form time throughout the week will be dedicated to discussing women in engineering. We aim to dispel stereotypes and inspire students to consider it as a viable career option in the future.

‘Arsenic For Tea’ by Robin Stevens A murder-mystery, with two curious girls as the main protagonists – Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong. As chaos unfolds around them, they try to solve the clues like full-on detectives, but unpaid, of course. Daisy’s mother throws a tea party, with the whole family invited but when one of them mysteriously falls ill with food poisoning and then passes away Wells and Wong are suspicious. Who could have done it, and how? The book is a thrilling read, as you unpick the clues with our protagonists. To suspect a character and find out the truth is a whole adventure without having to leave home. I picked this book from the series specifically because of how suspenseful it was. Almost every character seemed like the culprit, every single one of them acted edgy, so it was even harder to work out. This is the second book in the series, so I recommend reading the first book first, but there are other books in the series as well, so if you enjoyed this one, there are many more to enjoy! BOOK OF THE MONTH
