OVERVIEW
The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) plans to build a 900-megawatt methane gas plant in the heart of Cheatham County, TN, which will force thousands of taxpayers to lose their homes and farms . The Cheatham County Commission and municipalities have filed proclamations against the project. TVA is the 4th largest landowner in the state of Tennessee with 293,000 acres. The fed- eral agency is $20 billion in debt and has poured millions of dollars into construction sites that it has abandoned. “The United States of America” very quietly purchased more land in Cheatham on behalf of TVA in 2020 — 286 acres of pristine farm and wooded property on Lockertsville Rd. in Ashland City, TN, on which TVA plans to build an industrial project — from scratch, with no infrastructure. Though TVA stated in a first public meeting in June of 2023, that it was mandated to provide alternative sites as part of the discovery process, the federal agency now declines to consider any alternate properties .

NO BENEFIT TO CHEATHAM COUNTY • TVA stated in 2023 that Cheatham County will receive NO electricity services from the proposed plant. In subsequent changes, they have added a “small substation” to get around the first argument. • Residents have already received an INCREASE of just less than 10% on electricity bills to pay for this project — that has not yet been approved. • Property values have plummeted . Many have listed their homes for sale but potential buyers are not interested in purchasing prop- erty next to a (proposed) methane gas plant. • The TVA property sits on top of the Syca- more Creek , which is the water supply for Pleasant View, TN, population 5,692, and portions of residents in Ashland City. In the event of water contamination, thousands would be without water. • The entire area is a destination for outdoor recreation : hiking, camping, fishing, boating. Outdoor activities, and business transactions associated with them, would come to a complete halt.
