DEC 2023 THE SECRET SAUCE OF SLEEP ‘I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead’- Worst Advice Ever! THE SLG ADVISOR
In recent years, I’ve made a dedicated effort to improving my overall health. It’s no secret that I’m getting older, so I’m doing everything in my power to ensure I don’t lose a step. Whether I live until my 70s or 90s, I want to function at peak performance until I inevitably fall off a cliff. I’ve been eating better, drinking less, and trying to maintain a healthy exercise routine. However, I noticed many of these changes weren’t getting me exactly where I wanted to be. That’s when I started to focus more on my sleep. Sleep plays a pretty significant role in our health, whether we realize it or not. If you look up recent sleep studies, you’ll find that most Americans are getting less than seven hours of sleep each night when we should be getting around eight. According to the American Sleep Association, 50–70 million American adults are affected by a sleep disorder. So, what can we do to sleep deeper and improve our sleep schedules? Over the past few months, I’ve started to track my sleep patterns through a wearable device called WHOOP. I wear it 24/7, and it constantly monitors different body metrics and aspects of my health, including my sleep patterns. When I wake up in the morning, I can see exactly how much REM sleep I experienced, how many times I woke up, my resting heart rate while asleep, and much more. This product was initially designed to help athletes reach peak performance, but anyone can benefit from using a fitness wearable throughout the day and night. This device has even taught me how some activities affect my sleep more than I would have imagined. Take drinking, for example. Many of us love to close out the night with our favorite cocktail, but that could be preventing us from getting a restful night’s sleep. While it might help us fall asleep, there’s almost a guarantee we’ll experience at least one sleep disturbance
during the night. I noticed the difference immediately after cutting alcohol out of my diet. It’s not always easy to turn it away, however. I was at an event the other day with an open bar, and I was certainly tempted to grab a drink, but after reflecting on how it would affect my sleep, I went in a different direction. Another obstacle I had to overcome on my path to better sleep was screen time. So many of us drift to sleep as we use our cellphones in bed, but this behavior actually keeps us from getting good rest. Looking at screens right before bed

Confidentiality Agreem WHAT Y We recently settled a multimillion-dollar case that I can’t disclose any information about. As much as I’d love to announce to the world how much we helped this individual or the amount we won for them, I simply cannot talk about it. Now, you’re probably wondering why it’s so secretive. In this particular case, the other party asked my client and me to sign a confidentiality agreement as part of the settlement. The
fact that confidentiality agreements exist in the personal injury world may come as a surprise to many of you, but allow me to explain their purpose. Confidentiality agreements, sometimes called non- disclosure agreements, often state that all parties

So, why would someone want a confidentiality agreement? There are essentially two main reasons. The first is

“I sustained life-changing injuries from an accident that was not my fault, and I knew the first person I had to call was Len Spada. I knew there was no one better I could trust with my situation and my future than the Spada Law Team. They were unbelievable in the entire process and were able to reach a great outcome at the end of my case. There is no one else I would recommend in the New England area if you have suffered injuries from an accident that is not your fault. They make you feel like part of the family!” –C.M.

to protect the identity of the other party. This is common when athletes, celebrities, politicians, and other prominent figures find themselves involved in a personal injury case. The other reason is to keep things private so other parties don’t try to pursue similar claims in the future. This is where confidentiality agreements can get tricky. If the facts of a case are kept confidential, then the person or entity who did

If the confidentiality agreement puts them in the best position going forward, then there’s no reason they shouldn’t sign it, even if it means we won’t be able to show off a big win!

delays the release of melatonin, causing us to stay awake longer and wake up throughout the night. It wasn’t easy, but I broke out of this self-destructive behavior by putting my phone out of sight, reach, and mind. I started reading books instead of scrolling through the news and social media. It’s made a hell of a difference in my sleep schedule. Whenever I go skiing, it’s not uncommon for me to run into an octogenarian or two on the slopes. It doesn’t matter if they’re going slow or fast; they’re still out there, and that’s all that matters. When I reach their age, I want to be out on the slopes just like they are, but I’ll only get there if I keep my health in tip-top shape. I’ll need to get as much uninterrupted sleep as possible to do so. And if I can do it, you can, too!

From Miracle Cure to Tasty Delight THE UNBELIEVABLE HISTORY OF KETCHUP
During this time, tomatoes were still relatively new in American cuisine, and many people were skeptical about their edibility and safety. In fact, some believed tomatoes were poisonous, but Dr. Bennett aimed to market them as a safe and healthy miracle ingredient. His tomato preparation was a precursor to modern ketchup. The Transition to the Table Over time, the medicinal claims surrounding tomato- based ketchup faded, and people began enjoying its taste. A tomato-based ketchup started to appear in cookbooks as an ingredient in recipes and was commonly paired with eggs, meat, and fish. By the late 19th century, ketchup had become a staple in American households, and companies like Heinz began mass-producing it. Today, it’s tough to imagine ketchup as anything other than a delicious topping for our favorite foods, and while tomatoes do contain antioxidants and vitamin C, we know ketchup won’t cure a sickness. However, its transformation from fish sauce to tomato medicine to a beloved topping is a remarkable twist in culinary history!
Ketchup, the popular tasty and tangy condiment found on tables and in refrigerators worldwide, has a surprising and somewhat peculiar history. In the 1830s, it was not just a topping for hamburgers and hot dogs; it was actually sold as medicine — yes, medicine! A Unique Origin Ketchup’s roots can be traced back to Asia, where it was called ke-tsiap (Xiamen), a sauce made from fermented fish sauce. It made its way to Europe in the 17th century, but it looked and tasted different from the ketchup we know today, as it included ingredients like mushrooms, walnuts, and oysters — no tomatoes. The Medicinal Claim and Tomato Connection In the 1830s, an Ohio physician named Dr. John Cook Bennett began marketing a tomato-based concoction as a medicinal elixir. Dr. Bennett claimed his tomato extract had incredible healing properties and promoted it as a cure for a wide range of ailments, including diarrhea, indigestion, jaundice, and rheumatism.
