ART REPORT
2023 has been our best year yet! The quality and standard of pupil outcomes continue to improve at all levels, with some incredible grades achieved at both GCSE and A Level. For the fourth year running our art students have achieved 100% A*-B at A Level and we also saw some incredible results in the summer with our GCSE students achieving 100% Grades 6-9, with a record 25% of GCSE students achieving a grade 9. The art team couldn’t be prouder of this success and this year’s Summer Show, set in our beautiful gallery space and art studios, is our best yet. The Summer Show provides a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase their work and is a not to be missed event on the school calendar. With Carlie Curnow now an established member of the team, we have also welcomed Caroline Dyal to the Department as our specialist photography teacher. Her enthusiasm, drive and dedication is infectious and has resulted in some extremely ambitious and exciting projects. Sadly, this meant we said goodbye to the enigmatic and energetic Derry Snowdon, who has moved on to develop his experience of pastoral care as a boarding Housemaster.
We have also had to say goodbye to Dave Auborn, our first ever art technician, who is now teaching art to undergraduates in Hastings. Both will be missed and are thanked for the incredibly positive
impact they had on the quality of teaching and learning in the art department. We have also welcomed Holly Hunter as our new art technician, who is bringing a wealth of new skills and knowledge to the department, particularly within the sphere of photography and moving image. Raising the profile of the arts within the school community and beyond continues to be our mission and Holly’s wonderful videos, in which she interviews young artists for ‘Artist of the Month’, provide an excellent platform for students to discuss their work, giving valuable insight into the depth of their creativity and thinking.
