In the Summer Term the Drama scholars, 3rd Form and 4th Form students were treated to a classic murder mystery play, ‘Mousetrap’. The older students went on analyse this production for their examination and it was clear that they found the production funny, surprising and of course, a little bit melodramatic! A few weeks later, 1st and 2nd Form (all ninety four of them!) were whisked away to London to watch the breathtaking ‘The Lion King’. The highlight for me was hearing the gasps from the students when the animals paraded on stage during the opening number.
As part of the Drama Scholars Programme students also enjoyed two workshops; The Big Devising Day at The King’s School, Canterbury and a Musical Theatre workshop in our own Dance Studio. It was fantastic to see the students being pushed outside of their comfort zone to learn new skills and to develop their existing talents.
To conclude a busy year the Kirby Drama Club treated us to a whistle-stop version of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ and we hosted the third and final Theatre Thursday Showcase. A special mention goes to Didi Brooks who performed to an outstanding level in both events. Whilst I will only have a few short weeks next academic year before I depart on maternity leave, I look forward to popping back to visit, and to watch a performance or two. I leave the Department in the very capable hand of Miss Ross. As ever, a huge thank you to the Drama team who have put in an enormous amount of effort to ensure that all of the performances and events mentioned in this article can be possible.
Their behaviour was outstanding and the coach driver commented and how polite they all were.
