Senior Lawrentian Magazine

On Monday 10th July we took an U13 cricket squad on tour to Birmingham and Nottingham for four nights and five days. It was fantastic to offer new competition to our cricketers outside of our circuit and after playing three clubs and one school, we returned undefeated. We want to be able to offer more than just training and fixtures; we want to offer tours, Cricket Weeks, Exchange Programmes and various excursions throughout the year to help bolster the Cricket Programme at St Lawrence College. There were several fine performances with half centuries from Yuv Gupta and Umaiza Malik. Others would have gone on to achieve this milestone had we not retired them to offer others the opportunity to bat. It was also fantastic to be able to live stream our matches using our new FrogBox video camera, so parents who were not able to attend the tour were able to watch their child play from the comfort of their own home or office!

my own legacy which can be reflected on positively for years to come. We have lots of talent coming up through the School and more importantly, we have a huge amount of enthusiastic pupils who are enjoying their cricket. Naturally being my last Lawrentian report for cricket, I wish to thank everyone who over the many years has helped push cricket and support my vision. Cricket is in a very healthy place and I look forward to seeing it continue to flourish for many years to come. HOCKEY

BOYS’ HOCKEY Over the course of this term all of our teams have continued to train hard and do the College proud. The Kirby 1st VII had a strong season competing well throughout. The boys represented the College superbly in both the County Tournament and the John Maylam Tournament, where they narrowly missed out on the win. With the amount of boys we have in Kirby, we were able to raise more teams and it has been great to have regular fixtures for the Kirby 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5 and 6th teams as well as the Kirby 1st team. Well done to all the boys who have represented the College in Kirby this year! The U14A cohort have had an extremely impressive season, where they stayed undefeated through the regular season. The boys were in good spirits heading into the County Tournament and competed very well, narrowly missing out on the final in what was a very competitive tournament. Next year these boys will play as an age group for the last season and they should look to push on as an U15A squad. The U15A had a great year, only losing one of their matches. At the annual Peter Firminger Tournament, the boys narrowly lost in the quarter final stage.

Mr S Simmons, Head of Cricket 2011 - 2023

Through a thorough annual winter training programme we have continued to have success with many pupils representing District, Kent County Cricket Club and above. We always cater for all individuals whether it’s their first experience playing cricket or if they are an established 2nd Class County cricketer hoping to gain a professional contract. We have had many Kent Cricket Academy Scholars in the last few years which is testimony to the programmes that we have in place, and I am delighted that our cricket programme allows all pupils to flourish. Cricket at St Lawrence College is in a healthy place, and I am pleased that I am able to pass the cricket over to Mr Jones after running it for twelve years. I am extremely proud of what has been achieved over my tenure and hopefully like many OLs, have left

The U14B and U15B teams showed great development throughout the season and they should be proud of the attitude and determination they showed throughout the year. The 2nd XI had a good season, although their results did not always reflect their efforts. Competing against 1st teams as well as second teams, the boys produced some good performances and many of them should be looking to push for 1st XI places next year.
