Amy Humphrys Clifford Housemistress / Teacher of English Having been part of the St Lawrence family since 2016, it is time for us to bid adieu to Amy Humphrys as she leaves us to take on the position of Assistant Head (Safeguarding) at Dane Court Grammar School. First gracing our halls as a dedicated Teacher of English, she was well known for taking her English classes out onto Chapel Green to undertake ‘active Shakespeare’ lessons in the glorious sunshine. It wasn’t long before her talents and leadership qualities led her to take on new roles, and in her time with us she was KS5 Coordinator of English, DDSL, Head of Year for our 3rd Form day students (who she fondly named ‘Lower Lainglands’), and, most importantly, inaugural Housemistress of Clifford. As would be expected of Amy, she embraced the role of Housemistress with grace and warmth, nurturing those in her care over many years. She created a supportive, inclusive environment, with palpable House spirit – something that offered a real sense of connection during the challenges of the Covid lockdowns. Renowned for her love of Shakespeare, community events and interesting driving of dodgems at the Leavers’ Ball, her loss will be felt deeply by many. For us as a community, she has been inspirational. Genuinely wanting the best for everyone, she has been generous with her time, always putting the needs of others before herself and investing in every individual she met be they pupil, parent or member of staff. Whilst parting is such sweet sorrow, we wish her all the best in her next role and beyond.
