JOY FUNDS IN ACTION INDIANA UNDOCUMENTED YOUTH ALLIANCE IMMIGRATION VIGIL rooted. | issue 1
An immigration vigil hosted by Indiana Undocumented Youth Alliance offered a meaningful way for community members to show care and concern without placing themselves on the front lines. For many, the gathering created a safer entry point into civic presence, one rooted in reflection, solidarity, and shared humanity. Hosted by ambassadors Sayra and Luna alongside the IUYA team, the vigil took place outside the immigration courthouse downtown. The setting was intentional. It centered the people most impacted while honoring those who needed space to participate in ways that felt accessible and grounded. Joy Funds were used to help facilitate the gathering, supporting the logistics that allowed neighbors, allies, and advocates to come together with dignity. Candles, conversation, and quiet moments of connection turned a public space into one of collective care. The vigil reminded us that community heart work shows up in many forms. Sometimes it is loud and visible. Other times it is gentle, steady, and deeply felt rooted in honoring all the ways people choose to stand with one another.
