JOY FUNDS IN ACTION SOCIAL CAPITAL + COLLABORATION
CYNTHIA JOINS FORCES WITH INDIANA UNDOCUMENTED YOUTH ALLIANCE AND FRIENDS FOR YOGA EN ESPANOL TO ENCOURAGE MOVEMENT AND MENTAL HEALTH PRACTICES AMONGST LATINX COMMUNITY
As a new mother, Cynthia discovered a deeper interest in centering peace while staying connected. What began as a personal grounding practice evolved into a Spanish language yoga program designed to bring accessible movement and wellness to the Latinx community while exploring new ways to reconnect after maternity. The program is rooted in care, cultural familiarity, and lived experience. The program centers language as an invitation rather than a barrier and creates space for breath, movement, and shared healing for many under the quiet weight of carrying a heavy load. Cynthia mobilized social capital to make the program possible by trading for space, partnering with a mission aligned instructor willing to support the work, and combining resources with IUYA, with Joy Funds added to remove barriers to participation. More than a wellness offering, the program became an exercise in agency. A collective choice to cultivate calm, connection, and belonging even in the midst of uncertainty.
