- A Birthday By HELEN S. sinner. She learned, too, that the Lord J sus had taken her sin and had died in her place. She knew from the Word of God that He had- risen from the dead, had returned to Heaven, and that He offered forgiveness of sin to all who would receive Him. Ruth long ed to have her sins forgiven, to have a clean heart, and to be sure of a home in Heaven. She did not want to wait until she was grown up to be come a Christian, so one day when the invitation was given to all the children to accept the Lord as their Saviour, Ruth left her seat and with others knelt near the teacher. Gladly Ruth asked Jesus to enter her heart. The Lord heard her earnest prayer and entered in to make her heart His home. After that, Ruth loved more than ever to attend Bible Class, to hear the Word o f God, and to talk with her Saviour.

S CHOOL was out and from up and down the street boys and girls, laughing and calling to each corner. This was Bible Class day and every one wanted to be on time. Ruth and her little brother, Billy, were hurrying along with the rest of the boys and girls. She and Billy were always glad when this day came; they loved the B i b l e Class. Ruth held Billy’s hand tightly, and when they crossed the street, she watched care fully for the cars. Billy was her only brother and she loved him very much. Soon they and the other children were seated in the large room where the Bible C l a s s met. With songs, prayer, and memory verses, the hour sped by. As the teacher talked about the Lord Jesus, she drew pictures with colored chalk. As Ruth listened week after week to the story of the Lord Jesus, she came to understand that she was a
One day when Ruth was shopping with her mother, she saw a large doll in one of the stores. “O, Mother,” she said eagerly, “do you think I might have this doll? My birthday will soon be here arid I’d not want another thing if I might have this lovely doll!” Her mother shook her head as she replied, “I wish you might have her, Ruthie, but you know Daddy and I have had a great deal of expense lately, and I am afraid we cannc' afford to buy a doll like this, now. I am very sorry.” Ruth’s brown eyec filled with hot tears, but she bravely blinked them back. Several times in the days that fol lowed she spoke to her father and mother about the doll, hoping that some way they could find the money with which to buy it. but the" ctv shook their heads and reminded her of the many bills they must pay.
