GENERAL TAP TERMS
Heated Towel Rail
A radiator designed specifically to heat towels while also warming the bathroom.
Mixer Taps
Combine hot and cold water through a single spout, allowing you to control the temperature easily.
ELECTRICAL TERMS
Pillar Taps
Traditional taps with separate hot and cold spouts. Each tap controls either hot or cold water individually.
IP Rating
Ingress Protection rating. The two numbers indicate the protection level of electrical fixtures (e.g. lights) against dust and water. Higher numbers mean more protection.
Wall Mounted Taps
Taps that are fixed to the wall rather than the basin or bathtub.
Zone 1/ Zone 2
Refers to the safety zones in a bathroom where electrical fittings can or cannot be installed.
Freestanding Taps
Tall, floor-mounted taps, often paired with freestanding baths.
FIXTURES AND FINISH TERMS
Monobloc Taps
A single unit with one handle or lever that controls both the flow and temperature of water.
Matt/Gloss Finish
Refers to the sheen level of taps, tiles, or surfaces, with matt being flat and non- reflective and gloss offering a shiny, reflective look.
Three Hole Taps
Consist of three separate pieces; two handles (one for hot, one for cold) and a central spout.
P-Trap/ S-Trap
Plumbing fittings designed to prevent odours by trapping water in a curved pipe under sinks and toilets.
Deck Mounted Taps
Fits directly onto the bath or basin.
Basin Waste
The plughole mechanism for draining water from a sink, often available as slotted or unslotted depending on basin design.
Sensor Taps
Taps that use motion sensors to activate water flow, often found in public restrooms but also available for home use.

Bridge Taps
These taps feature two separate handles for hot and cold, connected by an exposed bridge or pipe.
