SPEECH DAY
We were lucky that the sun shone down on our Speech Day, which was a special day when the Junior School were able to come together as a community.
We inspire the children academically in sports and the arts.
This year we have won so many special trophies;
the Science Challenge, the Thanet Schools’ Netball Tournament, the Thanet
Thank you to Tamara Macfarlane, a highly successful children’s author and founder of the award winning Moon Lane books, for being our guest of honour, and for bringing with her the hilarious Gilbert Giggles who kept us entertained.
Schools’ Rugby 7s, numerous trophies at the Thanet Speech, Drama and Music Festival – quite an incredible range of success for our small school competing against over 25 Thanet schools.
It was a time to reflect on a year that we have all felt very proud to be part of the Junior School.
LAWRENTIAN 2023
We were thrilled that the ISI inspection went so well, in fact we achieved ‘Double Excellent’, the highest possible standard. Quotes from the report include: Pupils develop outstanding communication skills, they are extremely articulate
Pupils’ attitudes and approach to learning are outstanding
Pupils are highly respectful of diversity within society
Pupils of all ages achieve high academic standards
On top of which we had one of the best ever set of Kent Test results. Finally, we say a fond farewell to our Deputy Chair of Governors, Gill Page, who retires this summer, and thank her for her wonderful commitment to the Junior School.

MICHAELMAS TERM
TEAM-BUILDING AFTERNOON
Prep children got the Michaelmas Term off to a great start by taking part in their annual team-building afternoon. Children took part in a variety of fun and exciting activities with their peers and their new classroom teachers.
WELCOME TEA PARTY The new academic year kicked off as pupils and parents enjoyed a delicious Tea Party in the beautiful Head’s Garden. The
children enjoyed the chance to get to know their new classmates and teachers and
have some fun together before the beginning of term.
LAWRENTIAN 2023
YEAR 6 TRIP TO BETTESHANGER Having only been back at school for one week, Year 6 excitedly set off on their first trip of the year to the ‘Boonies’ army-style assault course at Betteshanger. Here they had the opportunity to try thirty different obstacles, such as climbing walls, rope swings and balance
beams suspended above water. During the assault course, the Year 6 pupils were able to demonstrate and develop a range of skills, including their balance, agility, strength, stamina and ability to tackle heights! Most importantly, they were tested on their teamwork. Mr Brown, Mrs Mackman and Mrs Lasslett couldn’t have felt prouder as every member of Year 6 worked effectively as a team, encouraging and helping one another to complete the different challenges.
YEAR 1 & 2 TRIP TO WALMER CASTLE Year 1 and Year 2 embarked on a trip to Walmer Castle in early September. Focusing primarily on listening to our rules to ensure we kept safe, the children were given the chance to explore the beautiful castle grounds, follow the nature trails and learn about the castle itself. We looked out for rules in the castle grounds and
discussed triangular signs. The children thought carefully about how the rules enabled us to avoid danger as well as helping us to keep precious historical artefacts safe.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE DAY
On 23 September we held our annual Making a Difference Day (MAD day). We run our MAD day every year to harness the power of our generous community to help others and to build life skills of empathy, kindness and service in the children at our school.
Year 3 and 4 learned about Guide Dogs and TAG pet rescue. At TAG, their mission is to care for and re-home as many animals as they can. They don’t receive government funding but rely on donations, income from their shops and the tireless work of volunteers to keep their centres going. Year 3 and 4 brought in dog or cat food or non-perishable items which were then dropped off directly at the local TAG shop. Year 5 created a ‘fun fair’ in the school hall to raise money for the Red Cross to support those in need in Pakistan. Record-breaking floods had hit Pakistan affecting over 33 million people. Many have left their homes with little or no belongings, and sadly more than 1,400 people have been killed. As well as the fair, Year 5 also held a bake sale to raise additional funds.
Our Pre-Prep children also held a cake sale and took part in a Cake Walk to raise money to support victims of the Pakistan flooding.
Overall, it was a fantastic day that not only raised money but also helped to develop pupils’ sense of empathy and awareness. By focussing on more than one initiative and educating pupils around these fundraising events on the importance of altruism, we want to instil them with a lasting sense of purpose that they will take with them throughout their school life and into adulthood.
LAWRENTIAN 2023
RECEPTION VISIT TO BROGDALE Reception had a beautiful, sunny day for their trip to the National Fruit collection at Brogdale Farm. The children enjoyed exploring the apple collection and tasting the different varieties. They collected a whole trolley load of apples, which they chopped, scratted and pressed into their own apple juice. Then there was the opportunity to explore the musical and sensory gardens and search around the pond for wildlife, where they were most excited to find a newt. What a lovely day!
THE BEANEY HOUSE OF ART AND KNOWLEDGE Year 5 set off on the train for a field trip to The Beaney House of Art and Knowledge at Canterbury Library. This was an exciting trip designed to enrich the children’s learning of Victorian Britain through undertaking research in the museum. They had the chance to make Victorian toys in the workshop, to gain an insight into the life of a Victorian child. They also had the opportunity to dress up
as Victorian children and discover toys lost under the floorboards of the local buildings. The day finished with a workshop learning how to make traditional marbles which they could take home with them. An enjoyable day was had by all.
09
NURSERY AND RECEPTION TRIP TO DINKY TOWN Our Nursery and Reception children had a wonderful morning at Dinky Town. The children really enjoyed immersing themselves in the dressing up and different role-play areas. From playing shopping and doctors, to driving the fire engine and flying the aeroplane, a great time was had by all.
HARVEST FESTIVAL
The Junior School rounded off the Michaelmas Half Term with our Harvest Festival Service in the Chapel. The service was led by Rev. Goodwin-Hudson with some beautiful singing and musical accompaniment from the choir and the rest of the Junior School led by Ms Caddick. It was lovely to see so many parents and friends joining us for the service. We were very grateful for the donations we received for the Salvation Army food bank.
ANCIENT EGYPT ASSEMBLY In their assembly, Year 3 took us back to the world of Ancient Egypt to uncover facts about mummies, hieroglyphics, Pharaohs, pyramids and the River Nile. The children performed wonderfully, through a short play and catchy songs. Well done Year 3.
LAWRENTIAN 2023
MULTI FAITH CELEBRATION WEEK
Junior School children spent a week learning about different religions of the world. We started our week by hearing from two pupils from Year 8, Nathan and Jonathan, who talked to our younger children about how God gives them comfort and companionship
Some of our Year 6 Ambassadors, Alan, Aiza, Saphi and Preeya led assemblies talking to their friends about their own families’ faith. In this way, we have given each child a chance to shine and be the expert of their Faith. We believe that through sharing knowledge and understanding of one another’s religion and spirituality children are supported to grow up with a positive and welcoming outlook to all.
throughout each day. As Christians themselves they spoke of the importance of Christmas and Easter.
“It is a time where I can learn lots about other religions which helps me understand the beliefs of people at my school. I also really enjoyed researching more about my own religion.” Aiza
Parents and friends were them invited to come and talk to the whole school about their faith and in this way, we have learnt about Islam, Hinduism, Catholicism, Judaism and Sikhism.
MICHAELMAS TEATIME CONCERT On Thursday 17 November our Junior School musicians treated us to a wonderful concert full of variety and interest with vocal solos and instrumental pieces on Piano, Violin, Cello, Flute, Saxophone and Harp. Our new Guitar tutor, Mr Adam Coney, performed alongside
Guitarists Sullivan and Samuel before the Orchestra took the stage to perform an arrangement of Batman. Well done to all our pupils and a big thank you to our brilliant tutors who work so hard with our pupils – they certainly did you proud. Finally, a very big thank you too to the parents who provide such valuable encouragement and support - seeing you all in the audience cheering our pupils on was fantastic.
11
POETRY RECITAL Pupils from Nursery to Year 6, put on a fantastic performance for parents and staff at our annual Poetry Recital. The confidence to stand up on stage and perform was most impressive. Year 6 dedicated their wonderful performance of ‘The Highway Rat’ to Children in Need and as the Poetry Recital came to a close, Year 6 surprised the audience with a performance of ‘Reach’ by S Club 7. Parents, staff, and pupils danced and sang along together. It was a fantastic way to finish the event.
KENT FIRE AND RESCUE
Thank you to our wonderful Kent Fire and Rescue Service for allowing us to watch the impressive turntable ladder drill. The children were really excited to be able to watch the fire engine in operation.
LAWRENTIAN 2023
CHRISTMAS STEAM DAY We were thrilled to be able to invite parents and families to come into school to take part in our Christmas themed STEAM day with their children. Activities included melting icebergs, sawing sticks to build Christmas trees, constructing gingerbread houses, and other Christmas crafts. It was great fun and lovely to see everyone learning and exploring together.
NATIVITY
After practising hard, the Pre-Prep children sang and danced their way through this year’s Nativity Play ‘The BIG Little Nativity’ a new retelling of the traditional story with all the usual characters. The children put on a great show for parents, staff and the rest of the School and made us all very proud. What a great start to the Christmas festivities.
13
CHRISTMAS JUMPER DAY
Things were definitely starting to get festive on our annual Christmas jumper day. The children were then all treated to a wonderful Christmas lunch in the Dining Hall and a chance to say thank you to the catering team for feeding us all so well all year.
CHOIR VISIT TO BUCKMASTER HOUSE On a bright winter’s day our 17 strong Chapel Choir visited Buckmaster House in Broadstairs to sing for the elderly residents. Sparkling in their Christmas jumpers, the children sang a variety of songs from ‘Once in Royal David’s City’ and ‘I saw Mummy kissing Santa Claus’ to ‘Stop the Cavalry’ and ‘Believe’ from the Polar Express before finishing with ‘We wish you a merry Christmas’. The residents and children thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

talent we saw at this year’s Junior School
Talent Show, from singers to comedians, dancers, magicians, and musicians. Well done to all the pupils who performed.
LAWRENTIAN 2023
UNDER THE FROZEN MOON The Pre-Prep children really enjoyed their visit to the Gulbenkian Theatre to see a brilliant production called ‘Under the Frozen Moon’ by the Half a String Theatre Company. They were also really lucky to have a visit from the theatre company the week before to give them a little
taster of the production. Year 1 and 2 then enjoyed a puppet workshop where they were able to create their very own puppets. What a fantastic morning.
CHOIR PERFORMANCE FOR MENCAP On Thursday 8 December our Junior Chapel Choir were invited by East Kent Mencap to sing carols at Manston Tesco and help raise vital funds for the charity who work to support people with a learning disability. With many shoppers stopping to join in and donate, the children sang a wide selection of songs including ‘Let it Snow!’, ‘Jingle Bells’, ‘The Twelve days of Christmas’ and ‘Arruru’, a beautiful Mexican lullaby.
CAROL SERVICE This year we were glad to be able to celebrate the end of the Michaelmas Term and begin our Christmas holidays with our Junior School Christmas Chapel service. Due to Covid it had been two years since we all joined together in our beautiful Chapel at Christmas and what a joyous occasion it was. Our soloist this year was Olivia who sung the first verse of ‘Once in Royal David’s City’. Her voice rose through the Chapel and was the perfect way to begin our service. The service was led by our Chaplain, Rev. Goodwin-Hudson, and the choir sang beautifully accompanied by the rest of the Junior School.

WORLD BOOK DAY
The children enjoyed dressing up as their favourite characters for World Book Day, and we had Zog, Wednesday Adams, Miss Trunchbull, Harry Potter, a few superheroes, princesses and a fantastic Mr
Men duo join us at school. To top off our wonderful day the children enjoyed a ‘BOOKnic’ with yummy snacks
and lots of books to feast on. We were also excited to set up our ‘Book Swap Library’. A huge thank you to all who donated books and who have enjoyed swapping.
QUEX CROSS COUNTRY
Once again, we were back at Quex for two cross country events over the year. We had a fantastic turnout, as we have done in recent years. Many
of our Year 3 pupils were out for their first cross country experience. It was brilliant to see so many have a go in October and then again in March and we had plenty of impressive results. Miller and Eddy both won the Quex event during the year and were then asked to represent the Senior School at Northbourne for the Stevens and Wainman cross
country event involving Kirby students. Both were incredible, and Miller won the girls’ event. It was certainly a very impressive year for cross country.
LAWRENTIAN 2023
PRIZE WINNING POTTERY We were very excited to watch one of our amazing St Lawrence College parents Lois Gunn being crowned the winner of The Great Pottery Throw Down on Channel 4. SUMMER TERM
YEAR 2 HARP DEMONSTRATION On Tuesday 25 April our Year 2 pupils were treated to a wonderful harp demonstration delivered by Miss Tamara Young armed with her impressive large pedal harp and our beautiful two school lever Harps kindly bought for the school by the friends of St Lawrence College. The children listened fascinated as Miss Young shared with them the history of the harp – of how it had existed since Egyptian times and has been portrayed in Egyptian artwork before performing Greensleeves to the children by way of introduction to its sound.
Israel knew that the harp was made from wood, metal, and strings. Monty spotted that you need to pluck the harp to make sound; interestingly, we discovered that the word ‘harp’ comes
from an Anglo-Saxon word which means ‘to pluck’. Demonstrating the range and some of the effects the harp can create, Miss Young then played a variety of pieces including a cadenza from the Nutcracker suite. The children sat spellbound throughout and thoroughly enjoyed the demonstration with each given a chance to play a lever harp guided by Miss Young.

CORONATION CELEBRATIONS The Junior School celebrated the coronation of King Charles III, with the crowning of our own King and Queen, Theo and Anchika. Children made crowns and flags to wave as the royal couple rode in a golden carriage to their thrones, then finished proceedings with a rousing rendition of the National Anthem led by the Junior School choir.
God save the King!

THANET JUNIOR SCHOOLS NETBALL TOURNAMENT A group of our Year 6 pupils took part in the ‘Thanet Junior Schools Netball Tournament’ which was held for the first time at our own Newlands netball courts. It was a great pleasure to host teams from fourteen local Junior Schools at our school for this very exciting community event. St Lawrence College Junior School pupils Olivia, Holly, Tiggy, Florence, Farrah, Riyon, Preeya, Darcie, Miller, and Lexie all played exceptionally well winning six out of their seven competitive matches in the knockout rounds
and earning themselves a place in the semi-final. Following a nail-biting semi-final match against Wellesley Haddon Dene, which was won with a golden goal, the players went on to triumph in the final. Congratulations must go to this group of pupils who not only played with exceptional ability but also conducted themselves with commendable team spirit throughout the competition. Our thanks to everyone at Thanet Netball League for organising such a brilliant morning of netball.

SUMMER TEATIME CONCERT On Thursday 25 May our young instrumentalists treated their parents to a wonderful teatime concert. Our guitarists were first to take the stage, led by Samuel S. who performed his piece ‘Mild Thing’ before Samuel G. and Sullivan took over to play ‘Soldier’s March’ with a wonderful flourish to close their duet. A series of solos then followed, with each performer beautifully announcing their piece beforehand. Performances by our younger pianists included Pippa with her wonderful solo ‘Morning Sunbeam’, Felix with ‘Drunken Sailor’, and Erin with a strong rendition of ‘Make Way for the King!’ Other highlights included Niamh with her Harp solo ‘Cuckoo’, Lizzie’s Flute solo ‘Snail Trails’ and Norah’s ‘Two at Twilight’ flute solo. Performances by our older pianists included Daniel Sowunmi with ‘T Rex Hungry’ and Jasper Gordon with ‘Forty Winks’. With our orchestra and string
group bringing the concert to a rousing end, all our pupils did themselves proud performing magnificently! My thanks to our guitar tutor Mr Coney and our violin and piano tutor Mrs Evans who supported both on the day and in the lead up and to Mrs Faux Bowyer, Miss Wood, Miss Young, Mr Mason, Mr Golding, and Miss Grimsdale who all helped prepare pupils for the concert. Finally, my thanks go out to all the parents who were able to come and watch which meant so much to the children and to all our parents for their unstinting support of their children’s learning – seeing the joy on their faces on completion of their performance was reward in itself!
LAWRENTIAN 2023
YEAR 2 SLUMBER PARTY Our Super Summer Slumber party was an absolute triumph. The children enjoyed eating pizza in their PJs, s’mores, a singalong by the campfire, and to top if off they curled up in their very own teepees supplied by Happily Ever Afters.
After a good night’s sleep, the children were excited to go for a hearty breakfast in the College Dining Hall. Everyone had a great time and the children behaved wonderfully well.
AFRICAN ARTS ENRICHMENT DAY On Tuesday 6 June Junior School pupils were treated to Djembe workshops and African inspired dance workshops and explored African Art in their lessons. Drumming expert Richard arrived with a van full to the ceiling of brightly coloured African fabric bundles, each containing a different sized Djembe drum. With a brightly coloured flag draped over a Djembe, Richard asked the children if they recognized which country the flag belonged to; with several very close guesses Richard revealed it was the flag of the West African country Burkina Faso, explaining that he had trained with a master drummer there. Seated in a circle, the children were taken through the different sounds they could create before the drumming got underway using word patterns to help the children remember. Riffs were layered up, the children had a chance to improvise whilst the main patterns were maintained and several different drumming riffs were explored becoming more advanced according to the age of the children. It was a very noisy day but one of enormous excitement!

IMPROMPTU BENCHBALL
The English weather can be unpredictable, but our under-9s cricket team were able to make the most of a rainy day. The team was scheduled to play a match against Northbourne Park, but the heavens opened on the way to the game and the pitch was waterlogged. Unable to complete the match, the team decided to have an impromptu bench ball competition. The competition was a lot of fun, and everyone enjoyed themselves. It was a great way to make the most of a bad weather day, and it showed that our under-9s are a team of adaptable and resilient players. Sometimes, you just have to make the best of a bad situation. This was certainly the case for our under-9s cricket team, who turned a rainy day into a fun and memorable afternoon.
PRE-PREP SPORTS DAY On your marks. Get set. Go! Pre-Prep had an exciting afternoon of fun, games and friendly competition during their Sports Day. Beginning with a selection of physical challenges, each class then had the opportunity to take part in a series of different races, and we celebrated the joy of sport and teamwork. Thank you to our Year 6 helpers and to all the families that came to cheer on our budding athletes.
LAWRENTIAN 2023
PREP SPORTS DAY As always, the annual Junior School Sports Day is one of the highlights of the year. We were fortunate again to be treated to some wonderful weather and the stage was set for an action-packed afternoon. As all the field events take place in the lead up to Sports Day, we had an early idea of the points. Waymouth were just over 30 points ahead of Fiske and Sutton. This year we had not one, not two, but three U11 records broken. Boys Shot Put. Riyon Purja Pun 7.65m (Waymouth) New school record. Previously Christopher Baker (Waymouth) 7.60m 1991 Girls Javelin. Farrah Dickinson 16.40m (Waymouth) New school record. Previously Alisha Udall (Fiske) 14.05m 2011 Girls Long jump Florence Kirkland 3.51m (Fiske) New school record. Over the last few years, there has not been a venue for the Thanet Schools swimming gala. With the Hartsdown pool out of action, we decided to host a small gala to give our swimmers an opportunity to participate in some competitive swimming. On Monday 12 June, St Faith’s came over for a morning of swimming. It was a huge success which saw many of our pupils really put themselves out there against some high-level swimmers. The gala was held at the Junior School pool. We were able to run a full programme of races, including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and even butterfly. The competition was fierce, but everyone had a great time. There were some outstanding performances, with many personal bests being set. SWIMMING GALA
The atmosphere was very supportive, and there was a lot of cheering from the sides and the spectators on the playground. At the end of the gala, we held a presentation ceremony to award medals to the winners.
PRE-PREP VISIT TO WINGHAM WILDLIFE PARK We had a beautiful, sunny day for the Pre-Prep summer trip to Wingham Wildlife Park, which was a ‘roaring’ success. The children enjoyed exploring the park and seeing all the wonderful wildlife and had a great time in the playground. Once again, we are so very proud of all our children in Pre-Prep, another brilliant trip rounded off with some snoozing on the coach ride back to school and a well-deserved ice lolly to cool off when we got back.
LAWRENTIAN 2023
DICKENS FESTIVAL On a beautiful sunny morning our Choir and a selection of our instrumentalists took to the stage on the Broadstairs bandstand performing with big smiles to the public gathered there. As part of the renowned Dickens Festival, the Choir opened with ‘Universe’ – a newly written song crafted by our very own Year 3 pupil, Kuzey before launching into ‘When I grow up’ from Tim Minchin’s Matilda. Our leader of the Orchestra, Daniel then treated the audience to a rendition of

Following our soloists, the string group then took the stage, led by Mrs. Evans, followed by our Orchestra with Amelie and the theme from Batman before the Choir
PRE-PREP CELEBRATION ASSEMBLY Pre-Prep rounded off a great year with their annual Celebration Assembly. It was a joyful and lively event, beginning with a slide show of some of the highlights of the year. Then the children all took to the stage
accompanied by some funky music to receive their prizes. To finish, the children gave a lovely performance of ‘Count on Me’ for all the parents and families that came to celebrate with us.

PRE-PREP MINI MARATHON Pre-Prep children had a great time taking part in St Lawrence College’s first Mini Marathon event. All the children from Nursery to Year 2 warmed up with a 200m race with a chance to win a bronze, silver, or gold medal before taking part in the big event - SLC’s Mini Marathon race. The participants were given the option to run up to 5 laps in a chance to be awarded our special SLC Mini Marathon trophy.
A big thank you to our Year 5 helpers for supporting the younger children around the track and a huge congratulations to all the Pre-Prep children for showing determination, resilience, perseverance, and undeniable kindness as they helped one another around the track. We are so proud of you all!

LAMDA
The LAMDA exams were held in May during the Summer Term, with many students earning Distinctions in both ‘Speaking in Public’ and ‘The Speaking of Verse and Prose’. The November exams featured many newcomers to LAMDA, who demonstrated commendable commitment and dedication in their initial steps on the LAMDA ladder. Notably, our youngest student achieved a high distinction with a score of 93%. All students passed with excellent marks.
In November, the Junior LAMDA students showcased their talents at the ‘Poetry Recital’ event. Their performances included memorized individual poems and a delightful choral recitation of ‘Nothing Rhymes with Orange’. Their clear diction, expressive facial expressions, and mature composure were impressive. The Spring Term is always a vibrant and busy period for our dedicated LAMDA students. February exams were highly successful, with all students achieving Distinctions in acting, verse and prose, and Public Speaking. Additionally, twenty Junior LAMDA students participated in the Thanet Speech and Drama Festival, enjoying this annual event.

SPORT
RUGBY The rugby season was once again short but action-packed. We saw some of our U8s start Rugby for the first time and get used to a new sport. We saw some U9s develop their skills from the previous year, and finally, at the end of the season, we even managed to have a contact rugby match against Northbourne Park,
which ended in a thrilling draw. Both teams were truly magnificent. We are excited to see how this develops as they go further up the School. Our U11 teams were busy throughout the season, and we even saw some start to play contact rugby. Our U11A team was once again led by Captain Farrah Dickinson. She was magnificent and led the team superbly. We had a pre-season development afternoon with Northbourne Park, and after Christmas, it was our first match against Wellesley Haddon Dene. It was a thrilling afternoon, with our U11A team taking the win. CRICKET This year’s cricket season was an exciting one at St Lawrence College Junior School. We saw lots of our U8 pupils starting to play cricket for the first time, and several of them showed great potential for the future. Several of the teams played some very good cricket and were hitting plenty of fours and sixes.
On 25 January, it was our turn to host the rugby 7s tournament. We held the event on Newlands and were lucky to have senior school students referee the games. Our team played incredibly well and really showcased how far they had come as a team. This gave the team a tremendous platform to go out and play some magnificent rugby at the Thanet Schools Tag Tournament, which saw St Lawrence top their first group and finish top, then go on to win overall. A fantastic end to the season.
Our U11B were superb throughout the season, playing some highly entertaining cricket and winning plenty of matches. This year we saw far more pupils training with the hard ball during practice, and there has been a flow of players trying to break into the hard ball team. We had several closely fought games with just a few runs in it. Our Captain, Algie Moore, hit a fantastic 50 against his old school in a great game of cricket which saw St Lawrence take the victory. The U12 vs U11 fixture at the end of the season was a fantastic way to end a very enjoyable season.
LAWRENTIAN 2023
HOCKEY The hockey season is always a rewarding one for our pupils. Our youngest pupils enjoyed the challenge
of a new sport and made progress throughout the season. We were pleased that so many were participating in the after-school Hockey club, which was a great opportunity for them to develop their skills further. The U11s start their season with the annual Kent Mini Tournament, which is a great opportunity for our boys to test their skills against other schools. This year, the team went into the tournament with only one or two sessions of training under their belts, but they worked incredibly well together and finished the tournament on a positive note.
They were a great group who really stayed committed throughout the season. We saw more player movement between the teams, and individuals were always improving, which was incredibly positive.
FOOTBALL The football season was a busy one, with lots of boys playing a number of matches. The U9s found the season to be quite a step up from last year, but they have seen what the standard is like and will be better prepared for next season. The U11 teams had some very positive results, scoring plenty of goals. A highlight of the season was the U11A team, who were incredible. They played some of the best football we had seen in years and proved to be incredibly difficult to beat. Their Captain, Ollie Huggins, was fantastic at keeping everyone motivated and pushing them to succeed. The end of the season ended with them unfortunately going out on penalties in the semi-final of the Metheral Cup. Overall, it was a very positive season.

CROSS COUNTRY Once again, we were back at Quex for two cross country events over the year. We had a fantastic turnout, as we have done in recent years. Many of our Year 3 pupils were out for their first cross country experience. It was brilliant to see so many have a go in October and then again in March and we had plenty of impressive results. Miller and Eddy both won the Quex event during the year and were then asked to represent the school at Northbourne for the Stevens and Wainman cross country event involving Kirby students. Both were incredible, and Miller won the girls’ event. It was certainly a very impressive year for cross country.
