Bearbrook Bridge due for a refit

The final figure will depend on what kind of bid proposals come in from contractors and that also depends on what city council agrees to for the overall project. Maranda told infrastructure committeemembers that he is looking at a «design-build» method for replacing Bearbrook Bridge with a newer, more traffic-friendly setup, similar to what was done last year with the Cheney Bridge refit in Cheney-Hammond. Coun. Yvon Simoneau, infrastructure committee chairman, wondered whether a new bridge design could also includemo- difying the elevation of the approaches on either side of the bridge. He noted they are both steep with a sharp change from the road slope to the horizontal bridge deck. Maranda said that the new bridge designwould reduce the impact for vehicles approaching the bridge entrances. He also wants to look at including a pedestrian walkway as part of the bridge design. Right now, anyone on foot using the bridge has to walk on the bridge itself and watch out for the sudden appearance of any vehicles coming over the «blind summits» of Bouvier Road from either the Russell Road or St-Félix Road.
Now that spring may at least be here, in spite of the few recent attempts of the wea- ther to extend the rule of winter, staff at the City of Clarence-Rockland’s infrastructure and engineering department are looking at preparing for a tender call for contractors interested in bidding on a bridge rehabili- tation project in Bourget. Bearbrook Bridge on Bouvier Road in Bourget is one of several priority projects on Infrastructure Director Gilles Maranda’s must-do list for this year. He hopes to have a new bridge in place during the first half of the current mandate of the new city council. «The bridge will be replaced by Dec. 31, 2016,» Maranda said during an interview following a recent meeting of the city’s in- frastructure committee, though he noted that the bridge, designed for single-lane traffic, is in good condition and presents no safety concerns. «We still have several years before we would need to consider replacing it. We can select according to the best requirements.» Maranda believes in getting an early start on planning for the project. He estimates a

Ce petit village est à une vingtaine de kilomètres au nord-ouest de New Liskeard. Réjeanne Brisson, fille de Marcel et d’Yvette Breault, naît le 27 juillet 1951 à Judge, c’est- à-dire à moins de dix kilomètres du village natal de son futur époux. En raison de la proximité de la frontière québécoise, la famille fréquente l’église de Notre-Dame-du- Nord. En 1964, Claude décroche son premier emploi dans le domaine de la construction. Le 2 septembre 1967, Claude et Réjeanne s’unissent pour la vie en l’église Sacré-Cœur de New Liskeard. En 1968, le travail amène le jeune couple à Elliot Lake où Claude est foreur pour la firme «Morissette Diamond Drilling» de Haileybury. En 1969, il est à l’emploi de «Denison Mine Ltd.» où il travaille pendant vingt-cinq années. En 1975, Réjeanne décroche un emploi à l’hôpital St-Joseph à Elliot Lake où elle oeuvre pendant dix-huit ans. De l’union de Claude et Réjeanne naissent deux enfants : Suzanne termine ses études à l’Université d’Ottawa. Aujourd’hui, elle est à l’emploi du Collège Royal des médecins à Ottawa dans le domaine des ressources humaines. Conjointe de Luc Gourde, fils de Marcel et de Noëlla Paquette, ils habitent à Gatineau et sont les heureux parents de Francis et Nicolas. Francis poursuit ses études à La Cité alors que Nicolas termine son secondaire à l’École Polyvalente de l’Érablière à Gatineau. Joël termine lui aussi ses études en commerce à l’Université d’Ottawa. Il est à l’emploi de la fonction publique depuis plus de vingt-quatre ans au sein de l’Agence des services frontaliers du Canada et habite à Orléans.
En 1998, après trente ans à Elliot Lake, Claude et Réjeanne viennent s’établir à Rockland. Ces deux rejetons du Témiscamingue québécois et ontarois profitent pleinement de leur retraite à Rockland.
