Each month, on every second Wednesday at 6:30 pm, a space will be reserved for older kids who want to stretch their creative instincts.

King Henry VIII, an avid sportsman, had bowling greens constructed at Hampton Court Palace in the 1500’s and spent many an evening rolling bowls with his courtiers. Lawn Bowling in Lambeth, Ontario decided to focus her efforts on Chicago because of its flatter, faster terrain. “This is a great opportunity to improve my time!” Tara states. “On a personal level, supporting women’s health is important to me. I really value organizations that make support accessible to women from all backgrounds. Combining that with something I already enjoy—like being active and spending time with dogs— made this challenge feel meaningful in more ways than one.” When asked how walking dogs has helped her train for this up - coming marathon, Tara smiles. At its core the game is a tremendous social endeavour. Like minded individuals gather on the greens as much for the camaraderie as for the competition. The jitney format means that teams are drawn before each session, which provides the opportunity to mix and mingle with fellow members throughout the season. Today, lawn bowling provides healthy, gentle exercise for men and women of all ages and fitness levels in a relaxed, social environment. Like its winter cousin curling, the game calls for balance, flexibility, hand eye coordination and an acquired sense of muscle memory. Mindfulness arises from the total focus and concentration inherent in the repetitive delivery. The mind is married to the moment, and a sense of flow ensues. The game can provide the perfect escape from one’s worldly cares. Aside from her training, she’s also started a dog walking fundraiser to support the Chicago Women’s Health Centre. “Instead of simply asking for do- nations, I wanted to create some - thing more personal and commu - nity based,” Tara explains. “Where people can support the cause while
