Bursary Appeal 2024

What is a Bursary? Bursaries are part or fully-funded places that enable talented students from lower-income families to access a Dulwich education and the opportunities it provides. Our primary entry point for funded places is at 11+. Applicants sit the College’s entrance examinations and their family’s financial circumstances are assessed by independent experts. The final decision is made by the College’s Bursary Committee and awards are for the full period of study, subject to annual reviews to assess any changes in financial need. More information is available at www.dulwich.org.uk/bursaries. Our philanthropic focus is on the provision of transformational places, meaning fee support of 75- 100%. Today we provide nearly six times as many free places as we did ten years ago.

Spending on bursaries has more than doubled since 2013

214 boys are in receipt of bursaries

125 boys receive full bursaries (100%)

“What can we do to emulate the subsidised education that so many of us enjoyed? It is to contribute to and support the Bursary Fund. Some 200 plus boys have received bursaries and that allows them to enjoy and be nurtured by an education which otherwise would not be available to them.”

167 boys receive deep bursaries (75%+)

11 boys from Ukraine are in receipt of bursaries

What do bursaries cover?

School fees, uniforms, school trips and expeditions, school lunches and music lessons. A gift to the Bursary Appeal Fund, of any size, will make an impact on the lives of boys and their families who need the benefit of financial support.

Will Lewis OA (1954-65), President of the Old Alleynian Association, 2022-23, was part of the‘Dulwich Experiment’ during a period when 90% of boys were in receipt of free places. Will’s five-year old granddaughter attended Dulwich College Singapore, 65 years after her grandfather joined Dulwich in south London.
