THE BEAUTY OF CHANGE From Tearful Goodbyes to Exciting New Beginnings In 1830, the Baltimore and Ohio railroad opened — the first railroad in American history. At first, it was only 14 miles. But by 1915, it became one of America’s largest railroad systems, with about 4,535 miles of track. If you combine all the railways in the U.S., it’s around 160,000 miles of track. On a map it looks like a spiderweb branching across the U.S.! Thinking about the time it took to create these railway systems and the hours of manual labor involved is overwhelming. I can’t imagine what that must have been like. But the planners and laborers persevered and changed how American goods were transported and how passengers traveled throughout the country. While I’ve never worked on the railway, I empathize with the preparation and challenges the creators surely endured. One year ago, our physical remodeling of Anderson Dental Care got underway. But years of planning and budgeting came first, with challenges of their own. Although our office was only closed about seven weeks for construction, it took years for the ideas to become a reality. We had to determine how much space we had to work with, talk to colleagues to determine best practices for efficiency and comfort, consider our budget, and hire contractors and designers. And that was just for one building! I can’t comprehend the years of preparation it took to build railroads — mapping, engineering, and constructing the Baltimore and Ohio railroad started in 1815; it was a 15-year-long process! I carefully created the new office layout and design because I wanted the remodel to benefit everyone working in and visiting the office. We took our time to ensure that every team member’s feedback was considered throughout the process. My wife and I asked their opinions on office and room layouts, colors and decor, and how spaces would best be used. I value what my team has to say, and it was a lot of fun to experience this journey with them. We had to overcome some hurdles, but having a supportive team by my side made everything easier.
When the day came to close our office for a complete demo and remodel, I’m not going to lie: I shed some tears. (We also had a 2-week-old baby, so emotions were high in general.) It was like leaving my second home! Other than a minor lobby facelift, the office hadn’t changed since I first took over the practice. My first memories as a doctor took place within these walls. And while remodeling was exciting, it was also hard to see things change. But I know that even though the layout and walls are different, the memories of my first nine years in practice remain. We’re now one year from when our renovations officially began, and while it seems minor changes and touch-ups may continue forever, our overall remodel and new look is complete! I was in awe when I first saw the place. It was exactly as I hoped it would be — calming, efficient, and comfortable. However, I was so nervous for my team to see it that when they had their initial walk-through, I didn’t attend. Jessica went with them and took a video for me. Thankfully, they all loved it! Everyone was gasping, squealing, ooh-ing, and ahh-ing. I now regret not being there to see their reactions in person! I’m grateful we can provide a beautiful space for them to work in. Like those railroad track builders of long ago, we can see today how our planning, preparation, patience, and endurance have paid off. It can be hard to see our goals and ambitions through to the end, but it’s so worth it!
We hope you love the renovations as much as we do. Be sure to look inside this newsletter for more pictures of our remodeled office!

KEEPING YOUR KIDS BUSY WHILE YOU WORK FROM HOME Parenting Pro Tips: Studies show that roughly 43% of parents work from home, which means you’ve likely experienced a few of your important meetings being interrupted by kid-fueled chaos. Whether you work remotely full-time or out of your home office occasionally, keeping your children quiet long enough for you to stay focused on your job can be challenging. Here are some great ideas for keeping your little ones entertained during your 9-to-5 without Netflix playing babysitter.
LET THEM BE CRAFTY. Kids are swift learners, and after a quick
tutorial from you, they’ll be ready to tackle any art project. Gather construction paper, child-safe scissors, pipe cleaners, googly eyes, glue, cardboard, and markers, then go online to find some creative ideas for arts and crafts that your kids can make themselves!
SCHEDULE SENSORY PLAYTIME. Sensory activities are sure to keep your kiddos busy and their minds engaged. While you work, let those little hands feel, poke, and explore different food textures, shaving cream, sand, Play-Doh, and water. BUILD A FORT. Forts are a great way to keep your children entertained all day long — you’ll be surprised how long a few pillows, blankets, chip clips, and furniture cushions will keep little ones busy. Camping out in the wilderness of your family room is an epic adventure! BREAK OUT THE PUZZLES. If your children are old enough to build puzzles, these are interactive enough to occupy them for a few hours. The best part is that puzzles can be incentive-based — offer a yummy treat or extra playtime later in the evening once they complete the puzzle! GET MOVING. Dance parties, balloon volleyball, kids’ yoga, indoor hopscotch, and scavenger hunts are some safe ways to keep your kids active indoors during your workday. These ideas will help burn off energy and pass the time while allowing you to concentrate in relative silence. With so much technology available today, it’s tempting to plop your kids in front of the television so you can get some work done. However, these ideas keep kids busy without relying too much on screen time and allow you to finish your work with minimal distractions.

SUMMER FUN WITHOUT THE BURN
GROW A THRIVING GARDEN WHILE SAVING MONEY Be Sure to Follow These Steps!
While it may be the fall season now, the temperature is still warm enough to encourage root growth for a garden! During the fall, you can plant blueberries, broccoli, garlic, radishes, spinach, lettuce, and several flowers such as asters, calendulas, and cosmos. However, planting can become expensive, especially if you have large metal raised beds for your garden. It may take several bags of soil to fill your garden bed, which can quickly put a dent in your wallet. Is there anything you can do to save money?
will do) to the bottom of it. This layer will prevent weeds from the dirt underneath the cardboard from sprouting and growing in the soil you will add later. STEP 2: ADD STICKS AND SMALL LOGS. Similar to cardboard, adding sticks and logs will prevent weeds and other invasive plants from growing in your garden. And these limbs and twigs will provide much-needed bulk, minimizing the amount of soil needed to fill your containers. STEP 3: SPRINKLE GRASS CLIPPINGS AND SHREDDED LEAVES. Nitrogen and carbon are essential to any garden because plants need nutrients to grow. While you can purchase nitrogen fertilizer at the store, recycling grass clippings and shredded leaves is a cheaper and environmentally friendly
alternative. You can also toss food scraps on this layer for additional nutrients!
STEP 4: TOP WITH SOIL AND COMPOST. Finally, you can begin adding your soil. Because the bed is filled with other materials, you won’t need as much! After applying a good amount of soil, you can add compost to the mix if desired. Once everything is to your liking and your beds are full of soil and nutrients, you’re ready to plant. Happy harvesting, everyone!
Yes! Follow these four steps and watch your garden — and greenbacks — flourish.
STEP 1: LAY DOWN CARDBOARD. After setting up your raised garden bed, add a layer of cardboard (any type of cardboard

YOUR MONTHLY NEED-TO-KNOWS WHAT WAS THE LAST FILM PERSONALLY OVERSEEN BY WALT DISNEY? Today, we have dozens of Disney movies to watch with our family. But while the name Disney is on every film, not all motion pictures were seen or worked on by Walt Disney. The last movie the franchise’s mastermind oversaw was the 1967 film “The Jungle Book.” WHAT TIME IS ‘THE EVENING’? When someone says they will meet you at noon, evening, or night, do you know what time they’re referring to? To help you decipher their arrival, noon is at 12 p.m., afternoon is anywhere from 12:01 p.m. to 5 p.m., evening is 5:01 p.m. to sunset, and night is from sunset to sunrise. WHO WERE THE FIRST PEOPLE TO USE MONEY? To us, using money and plastic cards as a form of currency seems like second nature. But it wasn’t always the norm. According to Herodotus, a Greek historian, the Lydians (living in modern-day Turkey) were the first to introduce the idea of using gold and silver coins to purchase services and goods in 650–600 B.C.

Are Teeth Naturally White or Yellow?
ARE TEETH NATURALLY WHITE OR YELLOW?
Many people aspire to have bright, white teeth. If you visit the supermarket, you’ll find dozens of products that claim to help enhance the appearance of teeth. You can also search online for products and receive professional whitening treatment at your dentist’s office. Having whiter teeth is something many people aspire to achieve. But it’s also caused a question to pop up every so often. ARE TEETH NATURALLY WHITE OR YELLOW? The short answer is that teeth are naturally yellow! However, the structure and system your teeth use play an important role in understanding why teeth are naturally yellow. The pulp is at the center of each tooth; it houses the nerves. The next layer supports the tooth and gives it structure. This layer is known as dentin, which has a yellowish tint! The outer layer we often see is called the enamel. This is the white layer that protects the tooth.
But another factor affects the appearance of your teeth: your
You could also weaken your enamel using oral products to whiten your teeth, such as activated charcoal toothpaste, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, or a teeth-whitening kit. But that doesn’t mean all methods are harmful! If you decide to whiten your teeth, please let us know! We can review your records and provide information about your oral health, point out where your tooth sensitivity lies, what areas to be cautious of, and what at-home whitening products would work best for you. However, if you’d prefer us to whiten your teeth, please call us today at 513-231-7755 to book your appointment. genetics. The shade and thickness of each layer your tooth has depends on your DNA. Some people naturally have a thin layer of enamel that causes their teeth to look more yellow. ARE THERE OTHER FACTORS THAT CAUSE TEETH TO APPEAR MORE YELLOW? Aging is the biggest factor. The wear and tear your teeth endure over time will break down your enamel and cause the yellow dentin to be more prominent. However, lifestyle choices play a significant role as well. Grinding your teeth, brushing too hard, eating lots of candy, using alcohol and tobacco, and drinking coffee or other dark- colored liquids will cause your teeth to appear more yellow.
