Are Teeth Naturally White or Yellow?

ARE TEETH NATURALLY WHITE OR YELLOW?

Many people aspire to have bright, white teeth. If you visit the supermarket, you’ll find dozens of products that claim to help enhance the appearance of teeth. You can also search online for products and receive professional whitening treatment at your dentist’s office. Having whiter teeth is something many people aspire to achieve. But it’s also caused a question to pop up every so often. ARE TEETH NATURALLY WHITE OR YELLOW? The short answer is that teeth are naturally yellow! However, the structure and system your teeth use play an important role in understanding why teeth are naturally yellow. The pulp is at the center of each tooth; it houses the nerves. The next layer supports the tooth and gives it structure. This layer is known as dentin, which has a yellowish tint! The outer layer we often see is called the enamel. We can review your records and provide information about your oral health, point out where your tooth sensitivity lies, what areas to be cautious of, and what at-home whitening products would work best for you. However, if you’d prefer us to whiten your teeth, please call us today at 513-231-7755 to book your appointment. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or if we can be of any assistance!

genetics. The shade and thickness of each layer your tooth has depends on your DNA. Some people naturally have a thin layer of enamel that causes their teeth to look more yellow. ARE THERE OTHER FACTORS THAT CAUSE TEETH TO APPEAR MORE YELLOW? Aging is the biggest factor. The wear and tear your teeth endure over time will break down your enamel and cause the yellow dentin to be more prominent. However, lifestyle choices play a significant role as well. Grinding your teeth, brushing too hard, eating lots of candy, using alcohol and tobacco, and drinking coffee or other dark- colored liquids will cause your teeth to appear more yellow.
