Sean Jeralds has worked at Embry-Riddle since 1988, after starting as a student in 1986 on the Prescott Campus. He holds a Master of Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle and has held various roles at the university, including chief flight instructor, director of flight training and associate dean. Currently, he serves as an associate professor of Aeronautical Science. He has taught 29 different courses and was part of the team that won the Collier Trophy, awarded to those with the greatest achievements in aeronautics, for the implementation of Automatic Dependent Surveillance- Broadcast (ADS-B). He currently teaches courses in aerodynamics, performance and flight safety on the Prescott Campus. A favorite goal of mine in the Aeronautical Science degree is to help create lifelong learners with broad and robust aeronautical knowledge. PROGRAMS Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Science The B.S. in Aeronautical Science prepares students with the technical knowledge, flight skills and leadership abilities required for a career on the flight deck, with a strong focus on safe, efficient and effective flight. The program combines a four-year technical degree with flight training to prepare graduates for careers as professional pilots, including FAA multi-engine, instrument and commercial ratings. Through this, graduates are well-prepared with the decision- making skills, hands-on experience and advanced knowledge needed to pursue piloting roles in the aviation industry. Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics The B.S. in Aeronautics (BSA) is structured to accommodate individuals with diverse aviation backgrounds. In this non-flight degree, students gain experience with technical and hands-on elements in their field, learning to uphold top-notch standards in performance, quality, integrity and more.

Golden Eagles Flight Team The Golden Eagles Flight Team proudly represents Embry-Riddle’s Prescott Campus as its premier national championship team. Each year, the team showcases its skills in regional and national SAFECON competitions organized by the National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA). With a history of over 30 years, the Golden Eagles have solidified their reputation by winning an astounding 38 consecutive regional championships and 16 national titles, demonstrating their unwavering dedication and talent. The B.S. in Air Traffic Management (BSATM) readies students for a dynamic role in air traffic control by immersing them in real-time aircraft management experiences. Distinguished by a partnership with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), students receive guidance from professors with firsthand experience working as air traffic controllers. With an emphasis on student success, the curriculum is designed to guide students to roles as air traffic controllers, flight dispatchers and ground controllers. Bachelor of Science in Uncrewed Aircraft Systems
The B.S. in Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) is the first accredited program of its kind in the nation, with coursework in aeronautical science, uncrewed aircraft systems, computer science, engineering, geographic information systems and service learning. Students are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills for success in the field of uncrewed systems, emphasizing mission planning and execution, remote pilot operations, data collection and data processing. This hands-on program focuses on commercial and civil applications, preparing graduates to enter a rapidly growing and changing industry. UAS students also gain a broad understanding of business, aviation regulations, technology, meteorology and security issues within the industry.
Bachelor of Science in Applied Meteorology
The B.S. in Applied Meteorology provides students with a practical understanding of the physics and dynamics of the Earth’s atmosphere, with emphasis on applying theory to weather forecasting and weather-sensitive industries. Students benefit from an advanced Observatory Complex and cutting- edge weather forecasting and observing equipment, including a 20-inch Planewave Optics telescope. The program covers the intricacies of weather forecasting, including studies of severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, jet streams and the global climate. With some additional coursework, students in the program may choose to pursue an Emergency Response Meteorologist Certification or Aircraft Dispatch Certification, or pursue a minor in Flight or Defense Studies.

Department of Safety Science Professionals in safety science play a leading role in protecting lives and preventing accidents, contributing to overall public safety and well-being. Employers around the world are recruiting seasoned safety experts who can develop innovative safety
strategies and promote a culture of safety. By blending engineering, psychology and
organizational behavior, our Department of Safety Science presents a comprehensive outlook on safety. Our students gain knowledge and skills that enable them to practice occupational health and safety in various industries, including manufacturing, aviation, construction, energy, oil, insurance, consulting, healthcare and more. Students also have access to a range of learning tools, including the Robertson Aviation Safety and Security Archives and Crash Lab, which allow them to study important historical documents that have influenced the aviation sector and study recreations of real-world crash scenarios. With regulations tightening and a greater-than-ever focus on safety culture and risk management, the demand for safety professionals is increasing. The Bureau of Labor Statistics forecasts a 14% growth in safety science occupations by 2033, with especially strong prospects for those with broad knowledge that encompasses more than one specialty. Embry-Riddle and the NTSB The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is an independent federal agency which investigates major transportation accidents, including those involving aircraft. As an institution dedicated to aviation safety, Embry-Riddle prepares our students to meet the high standards set by organizations such as the NTSB.
PROGRAMS
Master of Science in Safety Science The comprehensive M.S. in Safety Science empowers students to explore both the theoretical and pragmatic disciplines that advance the field of safety. Our program is the only one of its kind to offer both aviation safety and occupational health and safety in its curriculum. The program has gained international recognition and holds approval from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals as a Qualified Academic Program. Graduates are eligible for the title of Graduate Safety Practitioner and are eligible to pursue the Associate Safety and Health Manager (ASHM) credential without needing to take an exam or pay an application fee.
Graduates enter the workforce with the skills to lead, train and advise on safety program implementation and compliance matters related to Environmental Protection Agency, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Federal Aviation Administration, National Transportation Safety Board and state health and workplace regulations.

ROBERTSON SAFETY INSTITUTE Established in 2015, the Robertson Safety Institute (RSI) on Embry-Riddle's Prescott, Arizona, campus aims to provide cutting-edge Professional Education courses, conduct innovative research in the field of safety science and collaborate with leading industry organizations to advance aviation safety around the globe. The Robertson Safety Institute was named for Dr. S. Harry Robertson III (1934-2021), an aviation safety research pioneer and Emeritus Trustee of Embry‑Riddle Aeronautical University. Robertson Aircraft Crash Investigation Laboratory The Robertson Aircraft Crash Investigation Laboratory offers students the opportunity to conduct simulated hands-on field investigations on recreations of real-world aircraft accidents.
Aviation Safety and Security Archives
A resource for all researchers of aviation safety and security, the Aviation Safety and Security Archives are a repository of unique and rare archival collections as well as published materials covering incidents, discoveries and knowledge in the field of aviation safety. The archives are available for use by students, faculty and staff, as well as by aviation industry practitioners and academic researchers.

OBSERVATORY COMPLEX
ROBERTSON AIRCRAFT INVESTIGATION LABORATORY
Explore The Universe Our unique Observatory Complex houses several student-faculty projects in optical and radio astronomy. The complex is equipped with a wide range of instrumentation for imaging and analysis of extraterrestrial electromagnetic emissions. The optical observatory is equipped with 20-inch Ritchey-Chrétien and 16-inch Schmidt- Cassegrain telescopes, cameras and a spectrograph. The radio observatory features a three-node Dipole Array Telescope (DART), a 15-meter HERA test dish, several antennas and more. Students use the observatory for collection and analysis of astronomical data for use in research projects, while faculty members also use the observatory for research and to provide outreach to the community through public viewings, open houses and other events in conjunction with local educators and astronomy enthusiasts. The location of our Prescott Campus puts us at a great advantage for seeing the night sky, far from city light pollution.
Keep the Skies Safe The S. Harry Robertson Aircraft Accident Investigation Laboratory (Crash Lab) is the most thorough facility of its kind and the only one offering fully scenario-based accident investigation training in North America. Besides being a key experiential resource for the university’s academic safety program, the Crash Lab is a resource for students in Embry Riddle’s Professional Programs short courses to enhance projects and training. The 8.5-acre facility includes numerous aircraft, a variety of platforms, several labs and a wide range of additional equipment, including a FARO 3D laser scanner. With access to the Crash Lab’s host of capabilities, students can conduct simulated hands-on field investigations using any of the nine fully re-created field sites, selecting from diverse customized training scenarios that improve critical-thinking and decision- making skills in a safe environment.

Excellence Takes Flight The Flight Department is committed to safety, excellence and professionalism within the flight training community and beyond. Operating from two independent parking and dispatch facilities at the Prescott Regional Airport, we ensure a streamlined and secure flight environment for our students. As of summer 2025, we have a new, state-of-the-art ramp and dispatch operation that further enhance our training capabilities. Our diverse fleet of 80 aircraft, including Cessna 172s and Diamond DA42 NGs, combined with expert instructors, provides students with the comprehensive training necessary to achieve their certifications and emerge as skilled, safety-conscious pilots. Additionally, the Prescott Campus also trains students on cutting-edge flight simulators, enhancing their skills in a controlled environment where they can practice emergency scenarios, navigate complex flight operations and gain invaluable experience without the pressures of real-world flying.
Ensure Smooth Operations Students majoring or minoring in Air Traffic Management have the
opportunity to immerse themselves in the cutting-edge Air Traffic Control (ATC) Laboratory, where they can take up to six upper-level lab courses. Equipped with Metacraft SimSuite — the same high- tech simulation software used in real ATC facilities — this lab replicates the dynamic world of air traffic control with real-world accuracy. Here, aspiring air traffic controllers can operate up to four radar and two tower positions simultaneously, receiving personalized instruction from experienced instructors in the lab. With state-of-the-art gear like custom mechanical keyboards and realistic headset adapters, students gain hands- on experience in Tower, Terminal and En Route operations. The excitement culminates in a capstone project, where ATC students collaborate with peers in aeronautical science, managing simulated commercial flights and ensuring safe and smooth operations.

These grants are available to U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are enrolled at least half-time in a degree program. To remain eligible, you must make satisfactory academic progress and not be in default or owe a return repayment on a grant or loan. Institutional and Private Scholarships Like grants, scholarships do not have to be paid back. Federal and Private Student Loans A variety of federal and alternative loan options exist for students who meet diverse qualifications, including degree of study, past accomplishments, financial status and other such criteria.
