In January, HMRC answered 93% of all customer calls, well above their 85% target. And the year to date figure (since April 2016) is also above target at 91%.
Year to date figures for handling post also show HMRC are maintaining target; with 81% of post handled within 15 days (80% target) and 97% of post handled within 40 days (95% target).
Personal Tax Account usage since its introduction in December 2015 is up to 8.3 million against a target of 7 million; however customer satisfaction with digital services remains below its 80% target at 74% (year to date).

Don’t take the bait, be cyber aware 3 April 2017
Scammers are using increasingly sophisticated methods to spoof legitimate HMRC communication with information that appears both genuine and relevant. However, you should always remember HMRC will never notify you of a tax rebate by email or text. And they will not ask you to disclose personal or payment information by email or text.
HMRC issue a reminder of the do’s and don’ts through their tax agent blog :
If you have the slightest doubt that a HMRC email or text is fake, then:
do not open attachments , they could contain a virus do not click on links; they could take you to a fake HMRC site do not disclose personal/confidential information do, forward suspicious HMRC text messages to 60599 (charged at your network rate) do, forward suspicious emails to HMRC phishing team at, phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk .
If in doubt, check security guidance: Dealing with HMRC Phishing and scams .
If you think you have disclosed personal information in response to a scam HMRC email or text, act quickly. Contact the HMRC security team at, security.custcon@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk providing brief details of what you disclosed (e.g. name, address, HMRC User ID, password). Do not give your personal details in the email.
At a top level, HMRC and agents are working together to protect their clients. By reporting your suspicions, and promoting cyber security messages, you can protect yourself, colleagues and clients from threats.

New HMRC Fraud Hotline launched 7 April 2017
On 3 April 2017 HM Revenue and Customs launched the HMRC Fraud Hotline , a new public service that will simplify the fraud and evasion reporting process.
A new single telephone number and online form will replace two separate tax evasion and customs hotlines.
People who want to report fraud or evasion can contact HMRC through:
The new HMRC Fraud Hotline - on 0800 788 887 - between 8am and 8pm seven days a week. (an international service is available for callers overseas – 0203 080 0871) A new digital form on GOV.UK’.
As well as making it easier to report fraud and evasion, streamlining this service will allow more efficient analysis of the intelligence; ensuring suitable cases are passed to investigators as quickly as possible.
