“The technology does not involve removing boilers or tanks but instead straightforwardly replaces the fossil fuel kerosene with HVO, which can reduce carbon emissions by up to 88%.”

HVO has been successfully demonstrated as an alternative renewable liquid fuel in 150 rural premises across the UK, including Northern Ireland.

88% reduction in emissions. and a workforce capable of applying HVO conversions at scale and maintaining distribution of the fuel through existing channels across the UK, including Northern Ireland. The letter continued: “In a positive development and as part of the Energy Act 2023, there is an agreement to deliver a consultation on a renewable liquid fuel obligation. “This year could be pivotal for Northern Ireland putting in place an agreed strategy for achieving net-zero emissions. “We have been pleased to take our place on DfE’s recently-established biofuels stakeholder group and we will provide evidence on how fuels such as HVO can help reduce emissions. “I am writing to seek your support for the inclusion of sustainable and renewable biofuels in Northern Ireland’s energy strategy alongside other renewable energy alternatives.”
