insightful speeches addressing gas safety and carbon monoxide awareness, as well as the pivotal role of registered engineers in gas safety. During this year’s GSW, Gas Safe Register will launch a new PR campaign, run targeted ads online and a social media campaign, with each day of the week dedicated to a different topic around the importance of gas safety. Keep an eye on Gas Safe Register’s social channels and the dedicated GSW X page to stay updated throughout the week. To be part of the conversation use the hashtag #GSW24 and check out the Gas Safe Register website for more information. What other activity is Gas Safe Register planning for the coming year? As we move into the autumn and winter months, we will be launching a new campaign to remind householders to check their gas engineer is Gas Safe registered and of the importance of annual gas safety checks. With gas appliances in more frequent use during the colder months, the new campaign will also aim to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms that indicate something could be wrong, reminding householders of the positive steps they can take to stay gas safe. www.gassaferegister.co.uk
Recent inspection data found one in seven Northern Ireland homes house a potentially unsafe gas appliance. Left not serviced and unchecked year on year, gas appliances such as cookers, fires and boilers can cause carbon monoxide poisoning as well as gas leaks which – in some extreme circumstances – can lead to fires and explosions. We would urge all householders to be aware of the signs and symptoms of unsafe gas appliances, and to ensure any gas appliances are safety checked annually by a qualified Gas Safe registered engineer. How important is GSW in terms of raising awareness? GSW is the UK’s biggest national gas safety event, taking place from September 9th to 15th this year. It’s in its 14th year and the week-long event sees the gas industry come together to share messages and tips that help to keep the nation safe. Ahead of the week itself, those interested can check out the digital toolkit designed to help engineers, partners and the industry show their support for GSW. The kit includes content that supporters can use to update websites, posts they can use to share gas safety tips on their own social media and content to help with an article in their local news outlets about the importance of gas safety. For those interested in showing their
support for GSW, you can join thousands in sharing and amplifying essential gas safety messages with your friends, family, community or colleagues. Anyone can visit the website to pledge support and receive regular updates leading up to GSW. What is planned for this year’s GSW? The theme for this year’s GSW is ‘Checking – Every Check Counts’, emphasising the importance of, amongst other things, regular gas safety checks. The theme highlights the significance of checking all gas appliances, encouraging people to prioritise gas safety in their homes and this remains the focus of all Gas Safe Register campaigns. A parliamentary reception will be hosted on behalf of Gas Safe Register at the House of Commons and will welcome prominent parliamentarians alongside gas safety champions. The event will feature
